Yeah, I don't see anyone buying a NEW 6920 for under $1100 unless they are getting some sort of govt/LE discount.

Many people would like a monolithic Colt, and their version is pretty nice. The problem is that they mated it with a cockamamie folding front sight, and made the rail too short. If they had done something radical (for Colt) like going to a midlength gas system, kept the standard FSB, and a 9.0 length mono rail it could have been the hot new item. Or even a low-profile gas block and run a longer rail over it. Instead they made a series of odd choices (length, front sight) that pretty much ruin a great one (mono upper).
The "odd" choices on the 6940 are almost comical. If they had built a configuration with the features you mentioned, I would have a sold a few items and bought one that day they hit the market. As the 6940 stands now, I'd simply be making too many compromises to ever justify the price.

I spent some time with one at a local store, and I kept asking myself, "Why?"
"I have your number. Consider yourself warned."
