I'm also going to guess that the guy who was killed made some critical...and totally understandable...mistakes. I'm going to guess that there was some bad mojo going on between the guy and the costco employees leading to the 911 call. I'm going to guess that he was at least partially responsible for some of the bad mojo.

I'm going to guess that when he walked out the front door he had zero clue he was walking into police officers who were expecting some sort of violent maniac to emerge. I'm going to guess that when he was confronted by the cops he had absolutely zero clue what was going on, and I'm guessing that in his confusion he may have taken some actions in his confusion that were interpreted as hostile by the officers on scene...leading to his death.

To me the whole thing so far sounds like a perfect storm of elements that would be harmless on their own but combine to create the perfect storm of stupid, leading to tragedy....one that probably can't be laid at the feet of the cops. I doubt they shot the guy for kicks...but I can see how an otherwise normal dude can walk into a situation way out of his depth and end up being shot in the process.
I agree 100% with JW_777. In the end this is going to read like the mishap reports I would read in the Navy. Each individual event, by itself, isn't a big deal but combined them and it spells disaster.

The scenario he described sounds very plausible. Here's the latest news on the candle light vigil that was held. http://www.8newsnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=12960029

The department says it has been unable to retrieve surveillance video from Costco's hard drives.

Of course the video isn't recoverable. Didn't see that one coming.

I understand too is an adverb and to is a preposition, I still prefer using to in place of too.

The way I see it I'll save maybe 5-10 minutes over my lifetime not typing that extra o at the end of to. Even typing up this explanation saves me more time than typing that extra o

    Subject: Cell Phone Video
We have debated whether we should post this but it's too important so..we have heard that someone out there may have cell phone video of the incident and is concerned about coming forward. This could be a bogus comment..we realize that.

BUT..if you are real I can ASSURE you by calling the number on the billboards (702 240 5339) you will speak DIRECTLY to the Scott family. Or if you don't want to call the number go to the library and anonymously upload the video file directly to me at http://www.facebook.com/l/f3549wgtbM...usateri7057103.

We have had many people in your situation anonymously come forth and help shed light on what happened..which the family greatly appreciates. Those individuals remain anonymous to this day. Do what's honorable and come out of the shadows.

This is interesting: http://www.ktnv.com/Global/story.asp?S=12979248 Erik Scott's family is throwing their support behind Trevon Cole and his family by changing their billboards.

The new billboards say "We hope the Trevon Cole family finds TRUTH and FAIRNESS at their coroner's inquest Friday August 20th"
Trevon Cole was shot in the face and killed by Metro after making a furtive movement while kneeling on his bathroom floor during a botched drug raid with his fiance present, who was 9 months pregnant.

LVPD identified the police shooter as narcotics detective Bryan Yant, a 10-year veteran of the force. This is the third time Yant has controversially used his police firearm. In 2002, he shot and killed a robbery suspect, claiming the suspect, who was on the ground, aimed a weapon at him.

After a vehicle pursuit, Yant chased Brown on foot. Yant told the inquest jury that Brown reached for a gun as the two ran down a sidewalk. Yant fired three to four rounds. Brown fell, face first.

The officer continued to yell commands at Brown, who was on the ground, to drop his gun. Yant said Brown then tried to re-aim the gun at him. Yant fired another three to four rounds, killing Brown.

But crime scene analysts recovered Brown's handgun on the sidewalk, 35 feet away from where he had been shot.

How the gun wound up 35 feet away from Brown was never explored during the inquest. The jury took half an hour to find the shooting justified.
This is exactly why citizens are very critical of the coroner's inquest in our city.

The following year, he shot and wounded a man armed with a knife and a baseball ball who had been hired to kill a dog that had killed another neighborhood dog. Yants claimed the man attacked him and that he mistook the bat for a shotgun, but the man said he was running away from Yants when Yants fired repeatedly, striking him once in the hip. Because there was no death in that case, no inquest was held, but the department's use of force board exonerated Yants.

It is really sounding like LVPD has a exceptionally high number of people on the force who should not be in uniform.

Police are human. They error just like all of us. But this is starting to look like one hell of a pattern to me.

Robo-call going out to LV residents as a "reminder" of the incident but Erik Scott's family says they're not affiliated with the call. http://www.ktnv.com/Global/story.asp?S=12981595 Seems to be politically motivated by the upcoming elections for Sheriff in LV.
