If you want a piston buy a complete upper or rifle, not a "kit". Ruger's piston AR is a "best buy" and LWRC is top shelf plus their weapon systems are really dialed in. Customer service is excellent.
    "On Arfcom"? Come on, really?

I have a 5 year old Socom upper that has thousands of rounds through it with no failures that cannot be attributed to mags or ammo.

I wouldn't trust barfcom, collectively, to wipe my behind.

CMMG was the BCM a few years back. And yes they were known for quality and c.s.. They grew a bit fast and their c.s. suffered a bit, I have a few CMMG products new and old, and all have functioned flawlessly! Don't try the ADCO non-concentric bore stuff like on ARF.com, most barrel makers have this problem, a fact left out of the kool-aid disucussions over there.

I'm also curious on if they function like normal AR sights do? They look like there slightly missing something

They function fine and function well. I have a set with the HK style front. I think you just bring the front ring centered into the rear and put target on top of front post. Works quick and well.

They changed to the AR style ears up front probably just to make them easier to use if someone is used to AR front sights.

Is the CMMG piston original, or is it a licensed copy of the Adams Arms?

You mean mine? As far as I know its original, no way for me to know if its a copy of anyone elses design.

As if the Piston AR idea wasn't flawed enough on its own..... add the CMMG factor to it.

I'm curious as to whether CMMG engineered its own unique piston setup, or licensed one from someone else, such as Adams Arms. The question is really meant for the general audience of anyone who might wander through this thread, who might know something about it.

Sorry for the late response. Havent been back here in a while. Yes thats an actual pic of my Stag M8. It comes with Midwest Industries BUIS which I like very much. Kinda HK-ish in style with the rounded hood.

As for Stag using a CMMG gas block? I did a month of research and not one sliver of that being possible ever popped up anywhere? They do look almost identical though? Either way, the Stag setup is rock solid so far. I wasnt fully convinced with gas piston AR's but after alot of homework the Stag M8 always seemed to rise to the top of my list at the $1000 range. If I had $2,500 I'd have gone with the new Sabre Defense/Adams Arms piston AR but that was way out of my ball park budget wise.

The CMMG and Stag M8 were almost identical in price at $1075. I just went with Stag because of the CMT relationship. (For those that dont know, The CEO of Stag is the son of the founder of CMT) Not top tier but nothing a $80 BCM bolt cant fix at my low level of shooting. I have yet to see anyone blow up or melt a non mil-spec 4140 chrome-moly M4 profile Stag barrel with a semi-auto AR...so I should be ok for now. I only put down about 2k rounds a year at my age and budget.

I have a CMMG clamp on , on my 10 1/2 inch pistol. Approx. 1500 rounds and no problems.
