    One point I haven't seen addressed yet. You mentioned you weren't sure about getting a complete new ar or just a upper.
    If you get the 6.8, you can get just an upper, and with new mags, it will function fine using your current lower. If you go with the .308/7.62, you are looking at an all new rifle, in one of several competing standards, as there is much less standardization among .308 sized ARs. As far as I have seen, the Armalite AR10 and the DPMS LR308 style rifles are the two top choices, but neither is compatible with the other in respect to receivers or mags. Also, it seems like most .308 ARs are significantly heavier and more expensive than their 5.56 sized counterparts.

    I'm not dissing the .308, as I have a nice Remy 700 in that caliber. Just saying that an AR in that caliber is a whole different game.
