    IWB and IDPA

Are you allowd to use a IWB holster with just pulling your shirt/sweat shirt of the gun rather than using a vest or open jacket?

I have done it that way for years, including several state matches.

Me too. I even got away with it back when they had an 'inclusive' holster list, simply by asking "What competitive advantage would this provide?"

If you carry IWB, you should shoot IDPA from an IWB.

Thank you for your responses, I was hopeing to hear from some who practice this.

When not shooting at a match, do you keep your pistol visable to others by place your shirt/pullover to the inside of the holster?

I'm not sure I understand the question, so I'm going to explain what I do.

I arrive at the match in my normal carry mode. If there is no prohibition against entering the facility with a loaded firearm then I unload in the car to walk on to the range, and stay cleared, but concealed, until I am told to load and make ready by the Safety Officer.

At the range where I do most of my shooting we are prohibited from entering the park with loaded firearms. Therefore I clear the pistol out prior to entering the park and place it in a pistol rug. I then drive onto the property, to the range, and exit my car with the pistol in the rug. I approach the safety table, holster the empty pistol, and stay cleared, but concealed, until I am told to load and make ready by the Safety Officer.

While not technically allowed by the rules of our facility, I have heard of people that have two identical pistols coming to the range with one hot in the holster and one cleared in the pistol rug. They park in front of the range, put the hot gun in the center console or glove box, exit the car with the pistol in the rug, approach the safety table, holster the empty pistol, and stay cleared, but concealed, until they are told to load and make ready by the Safety Officer.

I think maybe what you're asking is about keeping the cold gun concealed during the match and in-between stages which is not an issue per IDPA rules but may be club, or range, specific rules. I frankly take a sense of pride in other shooters in all their range-day-(and no other day)-uniforms approaching me in my everyday clothes and asking me if I'm shooting today because they can't see the gun.

That's pretty much what I do.

BTW, I've actually been to a match where the SOs checked you at the car for a loaded weapon. If you didn't have one, you got a DNF on the first stage. The rationale was, "This is Arizona, we have open carry without a permit, so there's no reason not to be armed."

This is not the usual practice most places, though.

I get the same way. My favorite was the SO telling me I should get ready because I was up 1st. When I showed him the butt of my G19 got wide eyed and exclaimed "Whoa! I didn't even know that was there." I replied "That's the idea."
