I hate the shitty followers used in GI mags. Got a few with the green followers and still had to replace them with Magpuls.

    pmags

OP if you are mags were not brand new when they were given to you, or you got it them issue used, i dont see no problem if you sell them, but if brand new USGIs mags are reliable and have Anti-Tilt Followers its kind of pointless

If the USGI mags aren't causing any issues, there's no reason to replace them. Even if that prompts you to think "...butbutbut they MIGHT cause a problem if he gets into a major firefight like those guys in what I THINK was Magpul advertisement...," you've already gone off the deep end. You can only Kreskin this shit so far, especially if you can't quantify the basis of your train of thought beyond "I think I kinda maybe remember an advertisement...."

If they're known-good USGI mags, keep using them. Maybe put anti-tilt followers in them (I have about 2 dozen, still, and they're runnig fine). Buy, say, 5-10 extras to keep in reserve, or buy onsies/twosies over a period of time. Mags are essentially a disposable item, so if one goes TU, toss it. Unwrap one of the reserve, purchase another one to keep in reserve. Repeat as necessary.

Those new mags you pick up over time? Pmags, since they generally cost less to buy new than most folks sell new, metal, with anti-tilt follower metal mags.

PMags are easier to handle to me, as far as drawing them from a mag pouch, hip; I dont use magpulls. For cost however, I purchased the DSG Arms magazines with the Magpul anti-tilt followers installed.

Actually I realized that I have 13 USGIs. All of them were mfg between 2002-2005. It's a mix of D&H, NHMTG, and unmarked. They all have light green followers and have run fine for me. I'm just the type of guy that likes to consolidate my equipment and keep things simple. I guess I could always get Magpul followers for the USGIs, but part of me thinks why go to the trouble.

So what you're saying is that you had a USGI mag fail that wasn't it's fault. All mechanical devices will fail eventually, even pmags. You admit that the USGI was past it's prime... how could you expect it to work properly?

I understand what you're saying about pmags. I like and own quite a few myself. They fit tight and won't drop free in some of my ARs, and as such, I don't use them that much. I've also had no problems with my USGI mags, so it's my personal preference to use them.

Like logan09 mentioned, the military doesn't maintain their equipment like they should, and they keep items way past their service life (mags included). If the OP's USGI mags work just fine, their is no need to sell them, and he can just buy extra pmags.

And if you re-read my posts, I say just that: "Use what works for you". I've have pmags that are still working well to this day that are twice as old as many USGI mags that pooped on me; the cost is about hte same . I specifically stated: "use what works for you"; and that is exactly what everyone should do.
I would buy new pmags and keep the USGI mags as I said before. I have some USGI mags I was about to sell years ago, but I held onto them for no particular reason, and now they are collectors items; worth 10 X's more $ than I payed for or would have gotten for them sold used.
I'm not arguing anything here; just telling the guy what I would do, as he asked for advice. IF the USGI mags he has work fine; well there really isn't a problem to fix, is there? If not, and they function poorly; then he should go ahead and get the pmags and keep the old GI mags IMO.

We interrupt this programme to bring you an important news bulletin: the suspect in the Happy Times All-Girl Glee Club slaying has fled the scene and has managed to elude the police. He is armed and dangerous, and has been spotted in the West Side area, armed with a meat cleaver in one hand and his genitals in the other...

    Avoiding the fight,

I own both and shoot both. I have some brownells aluminum mags w/ CS springs and magpul followers....They feed just as well as any PMAG I've used. I also have some SS C-Prod magazines w/ CS springs that do the same. If you're using an advanced follower, good magazine body, and a Chrome Silicon spring, you're ahead of the game IMHO. PMAGs are great, but I also keep my eyes peeled for good values elsewhere. I've gotten my brownells and C-prod mags just as dirty and filthy as my PMAGS...all have worked.

Original USGI aluminum magazines with standard steel springs and green followers are worthless...but they are far removed from modern offerings...even if they look similar on the outside.

Point well taken, JSantoro. Been a looong day over on my side, easy to jump on someone when they're on the other side of a computer screen. My apologies to Logan09 for being an ass. I mentioned that specific ad not as the reason why pmag's are more reliable, but mainly because it was a certain event where we have the two products being discussed, and I ASS-umed the failures were due to the USGI mags.

I stopped buying USGI mags and only have bought PMAG since (and a few Lancers and a couple of ARCs to try out). But I did not get rid of the USGI mags. I have them as backup, range use, testing, and as part of my stash for future unpleasantness. If they work, keep them. Just buy PMAG for future mag purchases :-)
