Consider a TA11 variant. It's .5x less magnification, but you get a whole extra inch of eye relief, which has a great impact on how fast you can get behind the optic, how fast you can pick up the reticle, and how well it can be used in unconventional positions, all without losing anything appreciable.

Also consider a TA33 variant. 3x, so you will have lost another .5x, but kept the same eye relief as the TA11 and gained a noticeable weight reduction and reduced footprint. Oh, and less $$$.

Don't get wrapped around the axle over one model variant being a military-issue device. There's no difference in construction, those might actually be more money than you need to spend, and the lead-times can be far greater. Don't get me wrong, I like the TA31RCO variants, but that 1.5" eye relief is enough of a PITA that I'm happy that other possibilities exist.

Eye relief is definitely something that should be factored into your decision.

I've found the shorter eye-relief ACOGs to be somewhat confining (for lack of a better word) for any kind of shooting not at the bench.

I'm sure it's something that can be worked on through practice and training, but they certainly aren't my preference.
