    Thumbs up Awesome

Thank you for the well presented responses. Great job.

Lots of good info in this thread.

I was wondering if anyone has tried a 50 yrd zero with the center dot of the horseshoe reticle and used the top of the dot as the POA at 100 yrds just like with an aimpoint with a 50 yrd BZO. Would the BDC still work with a zero like this?

It won't work in terms of, say, using the 400m to range AND aim at a 400m target and reasonably anticipate getting hits. You can still range, of course, but your usable aimpoint will be offset from there.

So, it can still work if you shoot with it enough to see how far the aimpoints on the BDC are offset from the ranging stadia.

I can't remember what the height-over-bore is on a TA33, but it's not far off from that of an Aimpoint Comp-series or irons. A 50yd should still net you somewhere around a 200m zero, but you'd want to play with it to figure out what your holds are beyond that.

This is curious because I emailed Trijicon about their horse shoe reticle and asked them specifically what the width of the horse shoe meant in range estimation. They told me it was 19" at 150m which didn't really make sense to me because it wasn't that far off from 100m, but half the distance to the next point of aim. I will take your word for it because 200m sounds more correct than 150.

Yeah, what you quoted was specific to the CHEVRON reticle, which has no specific range estimation for 200m.

For the horseshoe reticle, 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock of the horseshoe is for 200m ranging.

Don't take my word for it. It's in the manuals. Below is an overlay that shows how the two types compare.

So, horseshoe, zero 12 o'clock of dot to 100m. Use 3-to-9 to range a 19" wide torso (NOT shoulder width; shoulders are somewhat wider and you can Jedi mind-trick yourself into measuring shoulders and aiming too high as a result), and about 6 o'clock of the dot for your 200m aimpoint.

Opening at horseshoe base is 300m ranging, with a specific aimpoint provided, further ranges as specified on the BDC...with the ammo and barrel configuration specified by the manufacturer for one's chosen optic.

Does Trjicon make a TA33 with green chevron? I didn't think they did. I'd like one if so. I didn't care much for the horseshoe.
