Vickers Tactical 1-Day Basic Carbine Class - NC‎ - November 21, 2010

Topics covered include carbine safety, stance, zeroing sights, sight alignment and trigger control. Familiarization with their carbine topics includes field stripping and maintenance. Other subject matter that is covered includes reloads, presentation, strong side & weak side shooting, shooting positions, use of cover, and introduction to different skill drills including dry fire and bullseye shooting. Malfunction drills and shooting on the move. Timed fire drills and evaluations based on class skill level.

Weapon & Gear Class Requirements:

Carbine:
- Serviceable duty grade carbine
- Serviceable sling (tactical type preferred.)
- Minimum of 5 serviceable carbine magazines
- Optics – (Optional, but highly suggested)
- Minimum 1 carbine magazine pouch - or method to carry at least two spares magazine(s)

MISC:
- Eye and ear protection (electronic hearing protection is preferred)
- Suitable range wear depending on the season
- Weapon cleaning & lubrication supplies
- Good attitude

Zeroed Weapons: 100-yard carbine preferred, but others are acceptable if you have a good reason why and understand it. Know your handguns zero at various ranges.

Ammo Requirements:
- 500 rounds of carbine

Looking to attend this and the pistol course with my 0311 buddy stationed at Lejune, but he doesn't have a rifle and I may or may not have one for him, any body attending have a loaner he could use?

Just signed up for the carbine class. This is my first such training class. Any suggestions/advice about gear to bring what to expect etc?

Gear is a complete non-issue for LAV's classes. Larry cares little about gear and all about shooting. Just make sure what you do bring is serviceable. At a minimum try to have 1 (at least) carbine mag(s)and 1-2 handgun mags on your body and you will do fine.

I'm sure we will have everything from simple 3-mag chest rigs, belt set-ups with 1-2 carbine & 1-2 handgun magazines on the belt, to full on plate carrier/chest rigs w/ armor rigs used by different individuals. In the end it does not really matter though. Guys have shot this class with spare carbine mags in their back pocket and done fine.

Can somebody school me on NC firearm transportation laws? I've been searching the errornet and much of what I can find is ambiguous at best, even concerning open carry in a vehicle.

I'm driving a truck to the class and would rather not have my rifle in the bed, so I'm thinking of keeping it in a case in the cab, with the ammo in the bed. But, if I have it in a case behind the seat, does that constitute a concealed weapon? How else can I do it? Again, I would rather not have it in the bed of the truck, for obvious reasons, though I do have a cap over the bed.

I have a Tennessee HCP and we have reciprocity with NC, so I'm not as concerned about the pistol, but if anyone could let me know of any "gotchas" to look out for, I would appreciate it. From what I can gather, no carry in places that sell alcohol, including convenience stores. Is that correct?
