The other issue you'll have is whether a new block is long enough to cover the old pin holes and possibly unfinished and/or blemished area where the old sight tower covered.
I taped my new gas block and the rest of the barrel and touched mine up with a little BBQ black paint problem solved.

On all my builds for myself or friends I always order the barrel with the FSB. On most of them I shave them and move on. If you buy a DD barrel from Grant, which I generally do, it's only $35.00 more for the FSB. A lowpro gas block is more than that and is not as secure. A double pinned shaved down block is the most secure there is, unless you weld it on! If you can swing a hammer you can renove the FSB and shave it.

Yup. Shave it. It isn't as hard as it sounds.

It isn't. I think getting the damn pins in and out was the hardest part.

So I have a question for you guys...... Is there anyplace that can drill a lo pro for pins on a barrel thats been drilled already? I was under the impression that once a barrel was drilled that was it..... Because of the way they drill for the FSB. Its jugged up and then just drilled there is no spec for this the holes can be anyplace.

Here's what gotm4 told me a while back about pinning a Troy gas block on my 6920 barrel that had pre-existing holes from the original gas block:

When I pin low pro gas blocks I mill a flat spot on one side and drill through it (1/8" bit). Then I ream it slightly with a taper pin reamer and use a taper pin to hold the gas block in place. I mill/drill right between the two set screws.
You may want to ask him about this, as he can go into more detail about it than I can.
