Apex, I'm liking these various versions you've been coming out with. Nicely done.

Everyone is going to have a different opinion, if the MOE is what you really want, get cheap round handguards until then.
+1 I went round and round before I decided on the DD. I found one used and I am very pleased with it.

apexcncshop, since the format seems to prevent rail covers to be used as heat pads, how does the tube dissipate in an extended fire sessions?
Sorry, missed your added question. While of course the handguard is alum. and will transmit heat, several elements of the design deal with heat very effectively.
First, the Clamp system acts as a heat sink, drawing heat out of the steel barrel nut and dissipating it. Also, although there is obviously contact between the clamp and tube, the fact that they are separate pieces does to a certain extent, isolate the gripping surface from the primary source of heat.

Second, the Tube is slotted down most of it"s length along both sides of the gas tube, which in conjunction with the slots in the bottom of the tube provide plenty of air movement.

Third, the Gatorgrip pattern cut into the gripping area greatly increases the surface area to facilitate cooling (think air cooled engine or fluted barrel).

Don't forget about the BAR rail from Spikes. Everything I have read has been positive. I just ordered a set for my middy they are putting together now.
