    Help with first buy

Hey guys. I've been lurking for a while now but finally have to ask for a bit of help. My GF offered to help me buy my first AR so I am going to strike while the iron is hot! I have a couple options and I am not really sure which way to go.

#1-Go the BCM route and get the highly recommended mid-length(16")

#2 Save a bit of money and pick up a Stag or S&W and use the difference for optics or ammo or god knows what else you guys are gonna temp me into (that Battlecomp looks awesome). I may actually have a hookup going this route through a family friend. Not exactly sure what kind of hookup just yet but looking into it.

Being this is my first AR is the difference between BCM and the other brands that big(a couple hundred$ worth)? The middy does make sense to me but that doesn't mean a carbine is a bad way to go.

Any thoughts guys? Help is def appreciated and great site by the way! ARFCOM seems to be a bit high strung. Thanks

One more thing. I would prefer a nice KISS type rifle. I have no interest in rails and adding lights and VFG's and such. Probably a MOE hand guard in the future. Is there much of a weight difference between the carbine and middy? I would like to keep it fairly light weight. If so what is a good choice in stock to get a good balanced rifle.

I'll go ahead and be the first to throw in Daniel Defense Check out the new DDXVM http://www.danieldefense.com/?page=s...product_id=210 very KISS. Both DD and BCM are two top tier AR makers for very good prices. Cant go wrong with either.

Do you want a complete factory weapon or do you want to do a partial build? I recently showed how put together a reliable build for just about 900.00. That is probably cheaper than the Stag or S&W from a dealer.

I don't mind doing a partial build to get what I want. I pieced together the BCM middy on G&R to get what I wanted and it was around 1100. They have blem lowers. Anyone have any experience with these? I don't mind spending a little extra to get a better rifle but I def want to know Im getting something for it.

Jake-I'll take a look at the DD. Thx

I'd spend the money for a 'better' weapon (i.e. BCM, DD, LMT are all great rifles) and just hold out on optics + accessories if you have to...

It's not too hard to put together a lower... I just grabbed a Spikes Tactical stripped lower for ~$90 and got a parts kit for $60... a couple tools and you are good to go with all the on-line guides out there. Could save you a bit of money this way...

    +1 for the battlecomp!!!!!

the companies you mentioned make great rifles no doubt about it, but i bought a smith and wesson out of curoisty and i could not be happier with it. But def look into your options alot of companies make great ar's so you will have a tough choice. Feel free to message me if you have any questions on the m&p

    Check this out.

    Upper (835.00 w/ BCG) - http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-1...lw%20ddox9.htm

    Lower (280.00 complete)- http://dynamicarmament.com/items/ar-...ger-detail.htm

Throw a rear sight on this and you will be in business. You could also opt for the mid length with standard handguards instead of a rail system. This will save you a few hundred dollars.

If you wanted to go all BCM, they have blemished lowers right now for a great price. Check this out from G&R:

    http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...on&key=LWR-BCM

Just select blemished from the pull down menu, get the A2 grip (or Magpul) and the BCM M4 stock and you are set. As little as $270.

I have a M&P15A which I love but if I had the chance to buy a BCM or DD, I would do that in a heartbeat... The better overall components and the option of the 1:7 barrel would carry the day. When I bought mine, I got it for $868.00 when DD's/BCM's were still going for $1,200 plus...
