Hey guys, I want an AR or M4 as well (just turned my M16A2 in) My brother in law has a bushmaster and swears by it. Just wanted to see what you guys thought. Oh and also where is that chart everyone is talking about? Sorry for tagging my questions on to this thread I just have similar questions and don't want to start a new thread....
Thanks guys
Thanks everyone for the help. I think I will just go the BCM route. Does the middy add that much extra weight compared to the carbine? I shouldered a Ruger 556 at a local shop and diddnt really care for the front heavy feel of it although it seemed very well put together. Is there a stock that balances well with a middy? Should I look at the lightweight middy uppers if weight is a concern? Is there anything other than a weight difference in the lightweights?
Sorry for the barrage of questions guys. I thought I was going to have a couple of more months to research this and make a decision but the GF just gave me the green light so it's game time! I feel like a kid of Xmas. Just got back from Vegas (Im in CA) and shot some great guns while I was there which just fueled the fire.
middy doesnt add any weight, it can actually be slightly lighter on govt profile barrels vs govt profile carbine, because there is more milled off under the handguard. There is about a 4oz different in lightweight middy vs govt middy, but its 4oz that is removed from the end of the barrel so the balance is greatly improved. Other than the weight theres nothing else different b/t lightweight vs govt.
For a stock I would either look at a Magpul MOE or Magpul ACS (ACS is a little heavier). I feel ACS work great to balance out a govt profile railed upper. If youre not gonna get a rail, MOE would work good. ACS has better cheek support as well
yea the SR556 has a heavy barrel profile so thats why its front heavy. The newer version have some fluting where it loses half a pound. You cant go wrong with a BCM rifle, very high quality, no BS overpricing.
