I read the linked threads above but have a quick question... Many websites link articles but also include a small snippet to entice the reader to follow it and read the complete article, will that be acceptable or will only the link be allowed?

For now, a short summary of the article in your own words plus your commentary will work. Threads that have nothing but a link will be deleted.

what a piece of shit human being. all those smarts are gonna do him a fat lot of good in hell.
I get no satisfaction from mods or staff taking an interest in protecting the board from being sued or closed down, I simply consider that part of their position. If you consider the posting by "Staff" to be effective in a legal defense, I would think its all a nonevent.

Board policy mandates I state that I shoot for BCM. I have also done work for 200 or so manufacturers within the firearm community. I am prior service, a full time LEO, firearm instructor, armorer, TL, martial arts instructor, and all around good guy.
I also shoot and write for various publications. Let me know if you know cool secrets or have toys worthy of an article...

Depending on who you talk to, the POS are the ones stealing articles and images. There are two sides to this coin, but as newspaper and magazine sales decline, you can expect to see the online world hit harder for copyright violations.
At a certain point, I think there will be an internet based law firm that deals strictly with copyright violations, and all a person will need to do is type in the info on a form and hit send. The firm gets their cut, and if its done on a basic form letter under federal guidelines, it would be pretty straight forward. The volume would make up for the smaller payouts.
IIRC, courts have already held the website owners are responsible, though how much varies depending on what steps they have taken. Sine a website with sponsors is a better target than an individual, you can bet they will be held to the flame.

well this is all news to me. last i knew, it was perfectly legal to use other people's work so long as you cited your source. if anything, posting links and articles generates ad revenue for the source- but i guess litigation is the only thing quicker than liquor these days.
