Limbsaver Recoil Pad...Is it really that good???

Like the title says. I am interested in getting good feedback from owners of the limbsaver recoil pad. Thinking about getting one for my 870 when I get my new stock.

    Thoughts???

    Thanks
    Shane

Don't hesitate, just do it! Seriously, I experienced noticable improvement over the stock pad on my 18.5" 870.

Yes I believe it really is that good. However, the biggest improvement for me in reducing perceived recoil was a stock cut down to the correct length of pull (distance from the face of the trigger to the rear of the butt pad). This allows me to have a stance more squared up to the target and works better for me while moving and shooting.

    Very effective recoil pad.

I had one installed on a Blaser R93 in .416 Rem. Magnum for a 21 day hunt in Tanzania (the Selous) and it made all the difference in the world. Prior to the installation the synthetic stocked Blaser did everthing but draw blood and even did that when a fellow fired it with his thumb over the stock and got a bloody nose. Totally set up the rifle only weighs 9 lbs and is 37 inches long.

That pad later develped serious problems and the folks at Limb Saver said the rubber had not cured properly. They took care of it and the new pad (year old) is doing great.

The slip on works great. Makes shooting slugs fun.

I am thinking about getting the Hogue 12" (shortened length of pull) stock for my 870 and going with this pad. Are they all slip on, or can you buy a limbsaver specifically for an 870 that screws into place? Also, if it is only a slip on, do you remove the factory pad?

    Thanks in advance!

I have been looking at that one exactly at midway, but does it have a limbsaver on it from the factory? Or will I need to order one from them for the new stock?

    thanks

I have that stock and forend in my spare parts box that I took off an870 and it has "Hogue" cast in the rubber of the recoil pad. I have a grind to fit limbsaver on my current shotgun since I had to fit it on a cut down speedfeed stock. I also have an extra slip on limbsaver for an 870. They both appear to be different than the Hogue and have limbsaver cast in the rubber of the pad. The slip on limbsaver I have is designed to replace the exisiting butt pad. Probably best to call Midway though and ask. since I didn't purchase mine from Midway. Hope this helps
