    Its Bow Time!!

I have been bitten by the Deer hunting bug I believe. Going to pick up a climber stand this week used. Traded for 1 bow yesterday and going to trade a knife customer of mine for another one Sat.

Here is what I picked up yesterday in a trade. A PSE Firestorm Lite.

Not too bad as I basically have all I'll need to get the job done if a deer walk within range. This bow is basically brand new. Its not a super new one but by far the nicest Bow I have shot. Has 3 pins and the top green one is set to 20 yards.

Got her fitted to my short 27" draw and was doing this each set of 4 I was sending down range. These are 2 groups at 20 yards.

Looking forward to the Diamond Rock bow my knife customer is bringing this weekend. From what I can find out it is a better bow than the PSE because the Cams are newer and may be a little faster.

Both of the bows are super woods size and I can not wait to get them out in the woods!!!

Really nice shooting for someone new to archery. Nice looking bow too. I've been shooting a bow since I was 12 or so and believe me, practice is the key.

Strictly my opinion (so feel free to ignore it) but don't get too hung up on the whole speed thing. Amost all deer I've killed were under 20 yards. In my experience at that range 20-30 fps doesn't make a difference. One thing to consider is that as a general rule the fastest bows are often more difficult for new users to shoot well. They are often more intolerant of mistakes in form or release. Again, just something to consider.

Good luck. It's an enjoyable pastime and can get under your skin if your not careful.

Thanks brother!!! I feel like the missing link I need is a range finder for when I'm in the stand. Can you recomend a decent one?

    Nice Bow!

I've had an AR34 (PSE's short lived performance shop series) for about 8 years now. Unfortunately I have had very little time to hunt in the last 8 years!

I'll second the speed sentiments. It's nice to have a very fast bow, but when you are leaning around the trunk of a tree 30' in the air trying for a clear shot, a good brace height and a solid rest system(Whisker Biscuit RULES!) are much more important.

Actually I'm in the same boat. I'd like to have a new rangefinder but haven't decided on one. I'd really, really like the Leica but don't have the $ right now. May go with one of the Leupold models. The ones I've used have been really nice.

I'm still using an old Ranging Rangematic, or whatever they were called. It's from the early 80's and one of those manual split image rangefinders. It works for me because I nearly always hunt from a stand or blind. I typically just range some distinct items in the area; the odd shaped stump, fallen branch, big rock, etc. Then when a deer approaches I already have a good feel and just do it my head, sorta. Easier to do than explain but i'm sure you get the idea.

BTW, I had a PSE bow years ago, a Stratoflite if I remember correctly. A bit heavy but a very stable bow and a good shooter. I took my first bow killed buck with it.

Let me know if I can help or you have any other questions.
