BCM GUNFIGHTER CH - MOD 4 or 5?

I want to get one, but can't decide on what size latch. I'd like to go with the medium size (Mod 4), my only concern is that it might get in the way and snag when the rifle is slung. Is the latch on the smaller (Mod 5) about the same size as the standard CH? If so I have no trouble manipulating the standard so perhaps I should just go that route? Need advice, thanks.

My impression is that the #5 is the same as a standard latch. I'm going with the #5 myself because I don't like the extended latch but do want the improved design of the GF charging handle.

I use the #4 for duty and most training carbines, but the smaller #5 is always an option if you dislike extended latches.

Awesome shots Stickman, love the lighting on your Flikr shots! A lot of people have no idea how long it takes to light a shot!

I went with #4 and have had no issues with snagging. I'm sure the potential is there, but have not experienced it. What I do like is the extra meat to assist me in smoothing out my charging of the weapon.

    Personal preference in effect.

I went with the Mod 4. It is still a significant increase in surface area to grab onto compared with a standard charging handle. The reason I went for the medium size over the larger size, in the end, was because I was worried that the larger latch would dig into my torso when I had the weapon on my sling when not in use.

i use the biggest latch bcm offers.

never had a snag (yet) or something to deter me from using the large latch. the large latch helps me with one handed (and support hand only) manipulations. it helps me when i F-up during a double feed clearing drill and i instinctively grab a mag, instead of racking the CH. the bigger latch allows me to just drive on and rack the CH with my reload still in my support hand, etc. there are lots of times the biggest latch helps.

all of the arguments against the big latch, seem like nuisance issues to me.

Mod 4 is the best of both worlds for me, big enough to grab, small enough not to get in the way.

    MOD 4

I went with the MOD 4 just because it was a great "tweener" I never gave the CH much thought in 30+ years of using the platform but after I tried a buddy's 6920 with one, I had to order some. They really do make a difference

I have the Mod 3 and Mod 4. Careful how you pull the handle - the design creates an occasionally annoying pinch point. IMHO, the Mod 5 is a far better choice...robust, well-made, well-designed handle.
