There goes that pesky logic again Damian!

Aside from the non-fuzzy bolt on rail sections for handguards and the FSB mounts, there's the old-school barrel mount option. If you really want to keep it 'slick' and no-frills maybe you can tape a light on your trunk monkey's head and keep him on a short leash?

This might be somthing better than mounting the light to the FS. I have one of these on a plain jane carbine and with a simple 1" scope ring it works just fine.

I always thought the problem with those types of set ups, was that you are relying on the strength of a little screw and the handguard to retain you light.

On my gun w/o a rail, I currently use a GG&G SLiC mount, rail on one side and sling loop on the other. Prior to that I just used the surefire barrel mount, and didn't notice any problems.

If I wanted to avoid the rail's, either one of those set ups is what I'd use.

Streamlight makes a mount and light holder that is similar to the GG&G, I have a couple of them and ain't scared of them falling off just yet. I've yet to lose a handguard either but I ain't that hard on my guns.

I'm not to worried about the light or handguard just falling off, but if it takes agood whack on a doorframe, falls, etc. that handguard may not withstand that.

If SF made 'em for a mid-length I'd be all over it like stink on a monkey.
