    Knights SR15 Question

Just picked up a KAC SR 15 E3 yesterday . It was listed as a close out sale at a large Indiana gun dealer. The bolt face does not have the groove in it that I have seen posted in pics by members of this forum. It does have the rounded lugs and the extractor is correct. Does anyone know if they made that change after the model was introduced..do I have an early model?

Also I heard mention of a gas block change does anyone know when they did that?..wondering if mine is one of the first ones

Not 100% on what you're talking about, but mine doesn't have a groove in the bolt face. Can't say I've seen one that way either.

I have seen several E3's and owned three. Only one ever had the "dirt groove" in the face of the bolt. My understanding is that feature has been discontinued from the E3 series.

There has not been a change to the gas block, but the gas port has been enlarged since the initial release of the rifle. It would be very difficult to know if yours has the new enlarged port without taking it apart. Easiest way to tell is to shoot it. If you have issues with low powered .223 ammo, send it in to KAC and they will fix it. Chances are, you won't have any issues at all. But rest assured, if you do, KAC will take care of you.

I recommend you get in contact with KevinB (who works for KAC) and he can steer you in the right direction.

MSTN sells the bolt parts but they are pricey.

KevinB is a great help & resource to all of us here on the forums, but commercial sales isn't really his ball of wax. He wouldn't turn you away by any means, but for commercial sales Casey is the guy you want to go to. You can buy the stripped bolt and a bolt rebuild kit from KAC / Lawmens. If you keep a round count, KAC will warranty replace the bolt if it pukes before 20K rounds, which for most folks means a lifetime warranty.

Learned something new, I've never even noticed that before. Does anyone know what the original intention of the groove was?
