With the deal that BCM is doing right now, it would be crazy to not buy an upper from them.

I went to their website just now and saw that they charge 55.00 for a standard bolt assembly. Of course, they provide ZERO specs on that bolt. I can almost guarantee that they are not HP/MPI tested. So why pay that price when you can get a good one for about 12.00 more?

You said that it is probably good for plinking or varmint hunting. But considering that some of use shoot 600 rounds in one or two sessions I don't see how buying their stuff is a "deal". Especially if you pay 1000.00 for a training course and your Model 1 crap ends up putting you out of training.

We have discussed their stuff here before. It is for the most part crap that un-informed people buy. We try to educate people at M4C and prevent them from learning that the hard way.
And I appreciate ALL the input!!!

Return that crap to where you got it for a refund. My wife made me do that one time.

+1, those two are both at the bottom of the list I'd be buying from.

So far as Model 1, I've only really paid attention to their 6.8 SPC offerings. They are hands down the worst spec'd of all the offerings out there for the 6.8 at present. At least they're good at something even if it's picking the wrong specs...

My boss had an M1S stripped upper and it started cracking at the top of the rail near the barrel, after about 1500 rounds.

(I saw the upper before he junked it. Finish was terrible, crack was about 2.5'' long. Bad thing it was.)

He then bought a DD Mk. 18 upper group.

    M1S is crap.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy an RRA either. Or a Bushmaster.

I went with the Standard Model 1 A2 stock, purchased from midway. Due to low funds after I ordered my Yankee Hill specter length 4 rail, gas block, end cap, gas block, and tools. In my opinion it would be to keep on a shelf, use it if you need it. The fit around the butt plate is terrible, and it would make an interesting lamp....

    Guys, I'm closing this down.
The complete failure of M1S to make a product of sufficient quality to do anything serious with has been thoroughly documented.

If you just want to get stuff from them to stick on a shelf and scare your Grandmother they are just fine, but you could accomplish the same end-state with an airsoft gun at lower cost and risk.

It is indeed true that they are probably sufficient for the bi-annual dirt shooter, but frankly that is not the purpose of this site or our target audience. There are other sites more friendly to that attitude and approach.

    Cheers
