Solo range kit.

I'm so confused now. I need a good kit for the at the worst GSW and general stuff. I shoot solo mostly and do have a hospital 8 miles from the gate and 9 from the interstate. Lucky I spose.

Recieved an e-mail blast from a company and oddly enough it's med kits and such. Can someone just give me a good basis. I will most likely keep it in the truck. Generally 50-75 yards away or on my gear. I've read so many posts I just need someone to tell me what will work.

Im no medic or anything but make sure you know how to use everything in your kit whatever you get. Doesnt do any good or can make things worse if you apply something incorrectly. Ive taken the Army "CLS" course 4 times, and you really need to know the circumstances in which to use things, how to use them, casualty care, etc. If you can check into a class or two. I know our local LEO offer free citizen classes on all kinds of things.


LaRue sells some kits that are pretty nice for a basic bag. I added some things, and had a left over IFAK from my Army days that I made a bag that stays in the car.

Refer to the Kit Recommendation thread as a starting point for your research. There are lot of knowledgeable members here but I am not one of them. I do have a system and kits that are always evolving that works well for me and my skill level.

I can hook you up with an Army IFAK or go commercial, such as AMK or Chinook Medical after you sort through all the information to find a kit best suited to your needs and situation.

For my situation, I maintain several different types of kits for specific applications but I concentrated my core components to address Extremity Hemorrhage. I loaded up on CAT and SOFTT tourniquets, QuikClot Combat Gauze, ETBs and Clinch-Tight. Followed by PriMed, S-Rolled, Kerlix and Cohesive Wraps. Then I added in NPAs, 14 ga; HyFin or Bolin, Petrolatum Gauze and Water-Jel Dressings. Durapore and Duct tape, shears or Rescue Hook are some of the accessories.

Start with the IFAK. It's small enough that you can just toss it in your range bag. Without training, anything more is overkill. I would add some regular ol' Mark 1 Mod 0 band-aids (er, 'adhesive strips'), hydrocortisone for the odd bug bite, and leave it be. Seek training, then upgrade.

Sorry Hank, I failed to realize that you are over burden with information with the various threads but chuckman as usual, is straight forward and very pragmatic. rob_s had already done the leg work on a IFAK review of sorts.

As you browse the thread, Mikey was inquiring on recommended components to build his own kit. Your best option as mentioned would be the IFAK.
