    That is an excellent question. The optic/mount should have gone back with the gun.

    I only mentioned it because what if it gets to Paul and shoots fine? Saves Paul and Canonshooter one round of hassles. No harm though, I'm sure Paul will drop a NF or Short dot on it and test it out while the new upper is inbound to Canonshooter.

    Exactly!

    If I'm in Paul's shoes, there is only one concern - is there a problem with my product? If he puts the upper together with a bolt group, charging handle, complete lower and an optic, he can quickly determine if there's a problem that he needs to know about.

    If there is a problem with the upper, it will show up regardless of what optic or lower is used.

    If no problem is found, I owe Paul and everyone here an apology. Then I'll try to figure out what went wrong...

    Thumbs up

    Paul will take of you. I emailed him about a problem with a new upper. Within minutes of me hitting the send key my cell phone was ringing. It was Paul - and I'm thinking how did he get my cell phone number. Anyway, he took care of the issue and I am a very satisfied repeat customer.

    Canonshooter has been around here long enough that I do give him the benefit of the doubt... and believe he's capable of shooting better than 8" groups at 50 yards.... (even though he is an AK owner )

    All is resolved entirely to my satisfaction. My thanks to BCM for handling this so well!

    Details

    The upper was sent back to BCM as per their directive and return authorization. While it was on the way, I decided to ask BCM if an upgrade was possible only if they were going to have to replace the upper.

    I heard back from BCM about 10 days after the upper was sent. They told me that they had "serviced" it and were prepared to return it to me, but if I wanted to upgrade to the 16" SS410 middy with LT rail, they would rebarrel the upper with those parts for just the difference in price listed on their website. I decided to do just that and within 24 hours, the new upper was on its way back.

    The new upper is a keeper. Using Hornady 75 grain HPBT match loads, it's sub-MOA at 100 yards. I will be trying some SSA SMK 77 5.56 loads next to see how they do.

    The rifle is now configured differently;

    I have replaced the birdcage with an AAC Blackout since the photo above was taken.

    So all is good. My thanks to BCM for their prompt service and allowing me to upgrade my purchase.

    I do not know - that's all I was told and once they said they would do the upgrade, I did not ask for any details.

    My guess is they found an issue and resolved it.
