Iraqgunz is dead on - yet that's something the DOD cannot figure out.

On .gov guns - two ejector failures, numerous mag failures. Others saw short stroking at the end of the day sans lube.
Personally owned - one ejector (didn't seem to fail, but replaced that and solved), ammunition related short stroking. Need to run my DPMS LPK'd lower more to see if I can finally induce the FCG failure I've been expecting.

I'd still mark it as UMEAL-P
USER, mags, extractor, ammo, lube - inferior parts.

On the civvy end, the disparity in pressure between good 5.56 loads and underpowered .223 strikes me as the primary cuplrit of the gas port issue - a huge gas port makes running Wolf on a tight chamber possible, yet high end gear that will short stroke on it like it's cool gets viewed as a problem with the rifle.

Gas ring wear, extraction spring, insufficient lubrication

    Really?

How many of Colt, BCM, LMT, Daniel Defense, or Noveske ARs with carbine length gas system have you personally observed fail because of their carbine length gas system?

Number one, easily has been end user gun plumbing that was fubar'd.
    Under lubed weapons
Cheap airsoft/chinese parts used on real weapons
    Bad/incorrectly finished chambers
    Broken bolts/cam pins

It doesn't matter what I've seen or not.

That system is the core problem. The gas port in relation to the muzzle has been the sole contributor to failures and malfunctions seen in this system.

The bolt carrier group wants to unlock too early.

You ever wonder why some of these upgrades are needed in the 16" M4?

Tougher extractors and springs, heavier buffers, etc, all designed to combat high carrier velocity.

It doesn't help that some shitty manufacturers have tight chambers and such.

If the carrier velocity is too high, a smaller gas port would help.

But yeah, I would rather have a 16" mid length than a 16" carbine. Not only do I feel it helps the gas system, but it also looks better and allows for more rail.

CAR length gas guns have the most port erosion of all of them.
Very VERY rarely do you hear of a midlength and never hear of an intermediate or rifle gas gun ever have gas port erosion problems.

Can anyone do a photo spread - pictorial comparo kind of thing, Airsoft parts versus real parts? It'd be interesting to see if certain outfits can be ID'd as passing them off as gun parts (http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?...d=1#post738090). Honestly from what little I've seen of Airsoft I wonder now if some Airsoft parts might actually be better than some of the really bad parts being offered.

Better tell Canadian special forces their C8 SFW rifles are all going to fail. Because they are all 16in carbine gas length weapons. But that's another thread

I'd take a MagPul PTS part over a TAPCO one - I've done accidental muzzle strikes (idiotically running into walls) and the stocks survived, my lone Tapco buttstock started to gum up just trying to break the bolt free on my $500 AR.
