Spent the day at Bethesda Naval Hospital

I have a friend who's a Major in the USMC. He's being treated for a brain injury at Bethesda. We got him out and had a great day at a pub and a book store.

He had a stroke and an anurism while he was serving in Iraq, they were able to medevac him out to Germany in time to save him, but they had to remove most of the right side of his skull to repair the damage.

He's still there mentally, but the stroke really took a lot out of him physically.

Just a reminder that if you know someone in the service who's stuck in a hospital, take the time to visit him/her and remind them that people care.

Even if you don't know someone, it doesn't hurt to visit these guys.

Is there any plans for any re-constructive surgery at his point?

Tell him all of us here are thankful for his service and I hope he gets well.

    I will.

Yes, he was supposed to have a plate installed next week for both protection and cosmetics, but that got pushed back until Oct. He's not happy at all about that, but he's had two plates intalled already and each time he's contracted a staph infection and they had to be removed. The doctors want to give his body some time to strengthen and also try to figure out where the infections are coming from.

He's a great guy. People who think they have it rough need to spend some time with people who've gotten kicked pretty hard by life, but kicked back.

    Templar,
God bless you. This Major is a credit to our Country, the Corps, and his family. I have lost three Marines to an IED, another one is still at the burn center in San Antonio. The fifth Marine in the vehicle received 2d and 3d degree facial flash burns, fortunately Oakley glasses saved his eyes, and a concussion but essentially walked away. Prayerfully he won't suffer from Traumatic Brain Injury.
