    Wilson Combat "Remington Steal" deal?

I have a Remington 870 magnum that has been used in a police capacity for many years. Its been shot moderately, qualified on it 4 times a year, loaned out for schools etc. I have no idea how old it is. It use to belong to another state agency before I got it.

Its beat, it has slight surface rust in spots, scratched, gouged and even has some green paint on the barrel from a accident reconstruction paint can leaking on it. The synthetic stocks are like a cheese grater in some spots Bottom line is, if you look at the thing, it looks like it has spent its whole life in the back of a cruiser banging off of EVERYTHING......

I searched and only found 2 less than desirable articles on the Remington Steal deal. The threads were from 2006 so I wanted to ask again. Anyone have any suggestions on this service? I am hesitant to send it in before I talk to the M4C. I don't really need the service due to my patrol rifle taking point on duty but always love to have a reliable shotgun close by.

In short, anyone use Wilson Combat shotgun refurbishing service...?

Just my opinion, but I'd have it refinished and do the rest myself. The "professionally reconditioned Remington factory parts" blurb doesn't inspire confidence in me. The 870 is so easy to work on. I'd get the parts I wanted and upgrade so I had exactly what I wanted in the end. Haven't done a cost analysis, but I'd have the parts I wanted. Brownells has the police model springs, non-MIM extractor, and most of the other items you'd need. Just a thought for what its worth.

+1. Our department armorer bought a trade-in 870 that looked like it had been to hell and back. He cleaned it up, refinished it, replaced a few parts and made it look and shoot like a full on custom SG. I did the same back in the day with a Coast to Coast shotgun (old style Mossberg / Maverick 88) and was pleased with the results. It was not that hard and added something to gun knowing I did the work myself.

I think you guys are right. It would be more cost effective for me just to replace the parts. For the price they want, I could just by a new 870 and move on .

    Thanks......

I wish I would have taken before pictures of my 11-87 I had it refinished at a local Smith for $80.00 if I remember correctly. I added a new stock set that I stippled at home, Daves metal safety, and shell funnel, Remington premium trigger springs, a new set of gas rings, along with painting the trigger housing. The result is an AWESOME gun the runs like a sewing machine. One of these days Ill get off by butt and redo the bolt, and get the gold trigger (what can I say I like gold but I have to have an FFL order it for me).

since the pictures I replaced the magazine extension with a factory 2+ that lines up perfectly with the barrel, I think I was waiting for it when I took these pictures. It also just dawned on me that it hadn't been refinished yet when I took the pictures.

Several years ago, my work place sent several of our out-of-service 870's for this service. They returned looking really pretty but still had the same problems they did when they were sent out.

Did Wilson do anything to correct the problem?
