ZK... That is sweet! I think a lightweight barrel in the dissy configuration makes for a great AR set up. Looking forward to this from BCM.

I built this upper yesterday, and took it out to the desert this morning to get my optic zeroed back in. So far, I like it very much. Everything is nice and tight and the balance of the rifle is great. The only thing that caught me off guard was how hot the MOE handguards got. I almost always shoot with gloves on anyway, but you would not be able to shoot this without them for any appreciable length of time.

What barrel profile do you have there?

i see a lot of yes's. Personally, i would have to say no. Not really interested in something like that. Everyones trying to save a ounce here or there, then they want something like that? I don't get it. After going through all the trouble of getting a LW pencil barrel, then you weigh it down again by adding a standard fsb to a rifle that already has a low pro gas block.

I know someone is going to bring up "sight radius" and all that shit. IMO, on a fighting rifle like this, i'm not going to be looking to shoot 300-400 yards using iron sights...

I'm going to assume that this release *is* going to happen already. I just hope that when they do, they release pencil barreled rifles with PINNED low profile gas blocks with no "dissipator" as an option at the same time. I would MUCH prefer that.

The previous upper I was using on this lower was the same barrel and BattleComp with a 12" LaRue rail covered in XTM panels. The weight difference between that one and this one is negligible, and to me the balance feels about the same. The reasons I switched to this setup are that I prefer the feel of the MOE handguards and I can now sell the expensive rail that was not being utilized, having nothing but a forward grip attached to it. Another thing is that I hate having a long length of barrel extending out at the front of the gun. Without the luxury of a SBR, this setup allows me to have just a couple inches past the FSB, giving a better spacial awareness of the tip of the weapon, which feels way better to me when navigating obstacles and tight spaces. I can definitely see why some people wouldn't be interested in this configuration, but there are definitely valid reasons why others are.

I personally don't want a pencil barrel, nor do I pee my pants over a few ounces. A long set of free float rails are good enough to place a front BUIS, but I also won't cry over a standard FSB.

I do prefer a rifle-length sight radius. Long range shooting or not, you'll get better hits with the longer radius. With this style of upper, you get the benefits of the rifle length sight radius and the handiness of a shorter rifle and a midlength gas system.

For what you want, it seems all you'd have to do is order a lightweight upper with a free-float rifle length rail system over a low-pro gas block.

Part of the attraction of the "Lego" rifle is that you can buy, or have made, damn near anything you want, eh?

That actually doesn't look that bad, traditionally I've disliked the dissapator look, but w/ those handguards and muzzle brakes they look pretty clean. I already have a midlength with a rifle length rail tho so for me it fulfills the same role as that model, but I could see how it might be useful for someone who didn't want to go the FF rail route

So its shit because you don't like it?

What does 3 or 400 yards have to do with anything?

I know some people will disagree, but this board is getting more and more like another place.
