    New member,First Build, First Post,

Recently decided i wanted to add an AR to my small gun collection. Knowing nothing about ARs i asked a friend about what to buy. he replied with don't buy, build. This was easier on my bank account but i'm not quite sure how well i did. I love the gun and it seems to be reliable. It's fun to shoot and i've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it. But from a technical standpoint, i'm not sure what i've got as well as quality, reliability, accuracy, etc. The whole gun is DPMS other than the osprey sight and the rail that i bought at a flea market and have now decided it might be for an airsoft gun (which led me here to find out what i really had).

    DPMS Lo Pro Upper
    DPMS Forged Lower
DPMS Trigger, Bolt Carrier, Barrel, Gas Block
    Houge Grooved Grip
    Random Stock
    UTG Rail?
    Osprey 4 Reticle Red/Green Sight

Anyways, just want opinions and knowledge on the gun. Keep in mind i don't know much and am here to learn so explain as best as possible.
By the way, i like photo editing....

Get as far as you can from that UTG rail!!!

But other than that, if the rest of your parts meet your expectations then go for it!

Yes, and no. UTG builds rails for airsoft guns and real rifles but they are as low quality as it can get.

You'd be much better off just buying a Troy or a Midwest Industries rail.

Well that makes me feel a little better. can someone explain what makes one rail better than another (besides the free float non free float issue) not second guessing, just wanting to know what to look for in one

Well damn- beat me to it.
And I was about to get all fancy with posting links....
Some irons might not be a bad idea either. *edit* Beat me again!! Curse slow internet...

On another note, I have a gear bag from UTG that seems pretty solid.

How much have you shot it yet? Imho, and from what I've learned here so far, a good dose of serious use will usually turn up any issues.
Mike_556 has got it right. I read probably half the site when I joined, and answered at least 50% of my questions before my first post.
    Although I'm a bookworm anyway....

On another note- that's an interesting upper- I've never seen one without a dust cover...

Not all UTG products are bad. Their bi-pods are actually quite good.

Simply put, rails from companies such as Daniel Defense, Larue, KAC, etc are going to be of much much higher quality. What I mean by "higher quality" is that they will be made from better materials, more likely to be "in spec.", lighter, and the company that makes them will be less likely to give you any B.S. if you have a issue with it. In other words... it'll last longer.

Comparatively speaking my knowledge on rails' is somewhat minuscule compared to many on this site. So I advise that you decide on your budget and just research what rail and company fits your needs.
