The BCM handle does not have an open slot in the rear. With any other charging handle, that slot will allow the charging handle to get all bent out of shape if you rack it hard with the side of your hand.

The BCM handle is the way the M-16/M-4 charging handle should have been all along. There is currently nothing else available that comes close.

Now, if you baby your charging handle and always use 2 fingers to draw it back, then there's nothing wrong with continuing to use the old style handle. They're a known quantity. Not as strong, but good enough for some purposes.

I just ordered a prototype Gunfighter from BCM it said for training use only. Should be here soon. It was about half price.

I just completed my 14.5" BCM which includes a BCM GF #5... Very, very nice and obviously outstanding quality. Very smooth and solid feel to it.

I have to say the BCM unit is better that I thought it would be. If there were anything negative at all, it would be that they can be rough on bare skin. Otherwise, great part that does what advertised.
Remember, the Founding Fathers reason for the 2nd Amendment... to combat tyranny. Sadly, when people discuss the 2nd Amendment, the opponents erroneously think it was meant to stand alone... it HAS a preamble:

"...But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security..."

There's a site (I believe USMC03's) that has easy DIY instructions on how to make a cheap RTV gasbuster out of it--I do it on ALL of my CH's

BCM's are phenomenal. I didn't think too much about charging handles until I used one on my buddies BCM complete.
Changed my mind entirely. The way the thing handles is just...different and amazingly better from the stock one

Oh and assembling a gas buster is pretty easy from a standard handle and the pri big latch. Probably not as good as the real product, but, similar in function at least. But for the money, you cant beat the gunfighter

RTV silicone (red) and it seals the charging handle well, no more gas in face/eyes. Also put a coat of black RTV on the deflector and brass does not fly as far......These are old HighPower tricks that work very, very well.....Less than $10 too......

Velcro on the brass deflector works too.
