    I know two people who have had very good results with a 140gr Nosler ballistic tip out of a 7mm-08 on West Virginia whitetails. It's a flat-shooting, excellent cartridge.

    I've been mulling over an AR-10 rebarreled for the 7mm-08 for a couple years now. Just need to find someone who'll make a custom barrel that'll work for the gun, and a dramatic increase in funds to afford it.

    ucrt, how's the round do through that short barrel vs, say, an 18-20" barrel?

    =====================

    I've never chrono'd it but it has to be slower. I've read about 35FPS/inch of barrel under 22". So, whatever listed FPS is, it's probably 200 FPS slower.

    I know the guys at the range complain because it is so loud but it shoots fantastic. I had to sort through quite a few factory loads to find a good one but when I found one it was worth it.

    I found a 3-round 100-yard target from a few years ago and posted it here. The squares are 1" squares and the white bulleye is 3-1/2" in diameter. I use a fixed 4X Leupold. I'll probably have to make another one because my daughter really likes this one.

    I bought my son a Ruger in 7mm-08 2 years ago for Christmas after alot of research, it's a great round and shoots great. He dropped a large 8 point at just under 100 yrds opening weekend last season with it. I have had him shooting Hornady 139 gr SST out of it and it is a tack driver. My brother reloads alot of different calibers and went out and bought whatever else he needed to reload this one in case the need ever arises. I managed to pick up about six boxes of the same lot number.

    I also shoot the Hornady 139gr SST load out of my rifles. Great bullet for deer! The Federal Barnes Triple X round is also a very good round in this caliber.

    It is a tackdriver. Took a while to find an accurate factory load but when I did, I got 100 yard 1-1/4" 3-shot groups.

    Shot 3 deer and they all dropped. Seems to hit not quite as hard as a 270 Win but it still dropped them at 150-200 yards. My daughter is trying to "pre-inherit" it. Oh well...
    Kinda like asking you if "her" rifle is ready for deer season, have you cleaned "her" rifle......

    I'v hunted in SW TX for years with one. I have a custon buid on a SAKO action and love the thing. It shoots very flat out to 200 yards which is about as far as I shoot most days. But have shoot it out to 400 yards on some yots. It kills everything I aim it at. Not as flat as the 270 it i still love the round. Right now I am using the fed perm 140 gr accubond.

    It's clean... and ready to go.

    As a side note, I thought I have been cleaning the copper out of my guns until I tried KG-12 last year. I cleaned "her" rifle like I was taught by BR shooters years ago but after (supposedly) cleaning it, I ran one wet patch of KG-12 through it, waited 5-minutes and pushed a dry patch in it that came out filthy. Unreal! That stuff is awesome.

    Now back to our regularly schedule program...

    Great round - long overlooked but never forgotten. You won't be disappointed. Now if the 6.5 Creed hadn't been invented...
