Well I'll confess--I'm aware of that and as it stands is now no longer a problem for that particular issue. To my point it seems that we're still living in the past abit. Again, I'll admit, my example of kimber is a Custom Eclipse II which was before they had external extractors (which I never liked on a 1911) and have since gone away again.

I do...would you like me to post it for you.

Also for the MIM discussion; here are some interesting tid-bits of info that would be worth a review to help satisfy ones curiousity or at least add to your knowledge base.

    SWATcop1911,

I work for STI, what is it about our products that you don't like for duty use. I'm not arguing with you or going on the defense but I would like your insight.

Yes, certainly, the problem of external extractors is in the past. I was simply using it as an example of situation where internet reports turned out to be true, and not just a hype or a small number of naysayers making all the noise. By the same token and based on personal experience as well as reports of several pistolsmiths, I believe that Kimber chambers were systematically tight. In fairness of discussion, Kimber barrels were some of most, if not the most accurate OEM barrels and many smiths left them in during custom builds.

Yes, the civility of debate on this website is unparallel and thank you for contributing.

I know for myself I stopped looking at STI for my personal use simply because the large lettering made the slide look very clumsy or less streamlined. I think your product is one of the better builds but the sleekness it deserves is totally taken away by making the whole slide look like a high school design product. Your pistols deserve a better delicate rolemark and I think many more people would give STI a longer look for personal use. I know I would have.

I went with Baer once I decided on what I needed overall if your wondering. I just couldnt get past the block lettering being on the slides like they are.

Not bashing STI in any way Sir but I thought Id speak what was on my mind 2 years ago to someone that was worth the time

Continue thread fellas................and no, Id never buy another kimber but I'll take one for free and sell it

STI also makes a rail gun, if that is what your definition of a duty gun is.

Coincidentally, it's called a Duty One.

Personally, I fail to see what an STI lacks that would not make it a duty gun. Mine has never failed me, regardless of ammo or conditions. Plus the lettering doesn't get in the way at all...it stays right on the slide.

You also might want to consider one of the SIG-Sauer 1911s; if you need a rail, their Tactical Operator might be the way to go, otherwise either their 1911 Stainless, 1911 Nitron, or 1911 XO.

I have a 2006 XO that's been tuned by their Custom Shop, and has a Bruce Gray extractor. It's been an excellent gun, but the normal 1911 caveats apply-plan on having it set up, and plan on at least a 500 round break-in period.

Current SIG 1911s sport at least MIM disconnectors and slide stop/releases. I would replace the slide stop/release with a Greider or Ed Brown tool steel component.

    Best, Jon

Inhis price range I'd say The TRP is hard to beat. If he wants a 1911 with a rail and intends to shoot IDPA tell him to pay attention to the weight and the barrel configuration. The TRP for instance is not IDPA due to bushingless barrel.

If he has to have a KImber try to talk him into an older one if he can find it, or a Warrior or aniversary model. They will not have the Swartz safety. In my experiance the old pre series IIs were great production 1911s.

The only bad things I can say about current Springfields are that some are marked made in Brazil, wich may bother someone wanting a 1911. And the triggers are not as good aas some other options due to the ILS. The trigger gets much better if the guts in the MSH are swapped for standard parts, but some will point out real or precieved liability issues with doing that. I also do not personally care for adjustable sights like thoose on the TRP Operator on a defensive pistol for 2 reasons. One adjustables aren't as durable as standard sights. Two finding replacement sights that will fit the adjustable sight cut is near impossible, so you are stuck with the factory design.

FYI......Springfield "Loaded" models and TRP's contain MIM parts just like Kimbers. Hammer, sear, etc.
