and weapon mounted, eh? you'd have to get a PEQ, but a headset it a LOT better setup... doesn't require you to muzzle something to look at it, and all.

i've never priced 'em, but i know ATN sells a goggle adapter. of course, we're getting way out of your price range- but it seriously is pretty limiting, and not exactly safe, to have your NVD weapon mounted.

ATN no longer makes mounts for the Patriot 2, however, they used to make both a head mounted system and a rifle mounted system. I am currently using a modified PVS-14 mount. Why would I need a PEQ?

you're using a modified 14 head, or weapon mount?

as far as i know, you can't use a dome set with an RDS. last time i ran NVDs, we were using centered 7s- so it was obviously out of the question- but it's my understanding that even with a right-side mounted monocle on the 14s you still can't peep the sights on your weapon.

    am i wrong?

well thats what i thought, which is why i said what i said above.

ETA- and to answer your following question- you'd have to get a PEQ, or some other IR laser/illuminator combo, because you'd have no way of aiming the weapon with a headset. but it's a lot better than muzzling your partner because you can only see when welded to your stock. like i said- upping your budget... so just food for thought.

I agree having to point my weapon at a friendly to see them in the dark is bad juju. But like I said, ATN no longer makes any mounts for this particular night vision device. If you or anyone has any idea where I can find ANY mounts for the ATN Patriot 2 please let me know. As for a PEQ...I WISH!!! I am working on a surefire w/ir filter.
