    MK18 MOD1 Technical Thread

I am trying to compile information on how these guns are assembled. I am interested in what lower, upper, barrel, etc is being used. Especially the barrel.

Please post pictures of MK18 MOD1s in military service with DD RIS 2 handguards if you have any. I am also needing any govt or factory information that says how these guns are assembled.

Please do not post pictures of your personal quasi MK18 MOD1 build or delve into any other side aftermarket topic.

I am only interested in real US military stuff.

    scottryan,

Here is a Mk18 that belonged to one of the SF members where I was at in A'stan. It was originally outfitted with the old style stock and then I donated my Vltor modstock to him.

He is using a KAC front flip sight and Matech rear sight. The front sight was replaced with a Troy HK style flip front that I gave him. In the picture you can see the PRI charging handle that was later replaced with a BCM Gunfighter (courtesy of Paul at BCM).

Also pictured is the PEQ-15 and on the opposite side is a Surefire Scoutlight with pressure switch.

He said that the uppers were being assembled at the Group armory by military and civilian personnel working there. When I examined the gas block it appeared to have been scewed into place. I don't recall seeing that it was pinned.

Of that I have no doubt. As they say "Necessity is the mother of invention".

Here's a link with a few photos of the RISII MK18 in the field. Pardon my cluelessness but I thought DD shipped these out as complete uppers with their HF barrels?

Iraqgunz why replace the front BUIS? Why not replace the Matech?

Also wondering on what was wrong with the issue stock?

If you feel this is off topic, PM me instead, I don't mean to derail.

He was actually happy with the Matech. he preferred the sight picture of the Troy and he thought it more stout.

He felt the modstock was more comfortable than the original stock and it fit better into his shoulder.
