Has it been established that they are cutting Colt barrels to 10.3 and NOT using LMT 10.5 barrels or are those facts still being established? Or are both being used?

Well I didnt know it till I opened this thread but I carried one in ASTAN in 03-04.
Here is what I remember. I got the uppers from ROBOTICS which was the rapid equiping force at Kandhar airfield. It was an office in the back of the big stone building near the DFAC. They were pusshing out all the cool stuff we see today robots, well cams, uppers, new optics you name it.
There was a MSG from the 75th and a Maj from group. I had to do some smooooooth talking to get the uppers.
They came in white cardbord boxes sealed in plastic and covered in grease. Equiped with LMT BUIS, KNIGHT RAS, A2 flash hider, new buffer spring and buffer, 10.5" barrel, New buffer tubes and older style stocks. I think the barrel said colt only other making was 1-7 5.56 NATO. I was told they had come from colt. I signed for them and left.
Part of the deal was I had to return them when we left so they could check the throat erosion. I was told testing had showed more errosion in the shorter barrel which led to a shorter service life.
I never returned them just signed them over to some guys from 3rd group the office was gone when we rotated.
At the time the rifle was a head turner. I remember SGM GRIPPE from 10th Mtn Div stoping me and my team sargent just to have a look.
Anyhow hear are some pice no real close ups of the rifle sorry. I wasent realy as into the weapons as I am now. I was only 23 and more concerned with looking cool.
Pics are from a village called SHerie safa on the ring road about 2 hours north east of Kandhar.

That's an interesting story...and about the same as mine.
We "inherited" our CQBRs in 2004-05 time frame (KAF); no one really knew where they came from, just that we had 'em so we ran 'em. Didn't really pay much attention to the details of the "build".
CSMs and such would give us the evil "unauthorized weapon mods" eye every once in a while.
We turned 'em over to the our replacements...assume they are still running around here somewhere.
ICANHITHIMMAN, is that a C-More sight on your MK18 in the photos?
If DD is supplying complete Mod.1 uppers directly to the end users, does that mean the Mod.1 uppers are now using the Daniel Defense CHF barrels? Or are they still using the Colt 10.3" that was used in the Mod.0?
Fine question, I was wondering the same thing myself.
Another thing I am wondering is if one buys a "MOD 1" upper from DD is one essentially getting the exact same thing the .mil gets (with the exception of the tan KAC sight, and the KAC NT4 mount)?
We know DD supplies at least the RIS-II and the MK12 gasblock, and we know they assembly all of the uppers in house. It would be logical to assume they would use their own upper receivers and barrels, but then again it is rare for any sort of gov't contract to follow logic lol.
