Scott, not trying to call you out by any means, but do you have a source for this information?

FWIW the barrels I saw recently (6 months ago) were Colt marked.

[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Colt MK-18 uppers available

This thread on arfcom has all the information but for some reason I can't get it to display. Maybe because I'm not a team member.

It has the contracts for the MK18 barrels and uppers showing Colt as the "sole supplier of MK18 componets and the only company that can meet the specifications"

This also has been posted on a few other threads but I can't find them. This was used to out the whole LMT MK18 bullshit and put an end to it "LMT makes MK18 barrels/uppers" which has now proven to be false.

I was challenged on this matter 5 years ago, with people spreading this bullshit (even some "industry professionals" who had an agenda) and I was proven correct five years later.

Myself and a number of other people asked for any government documentation, factory documentation, or any photographic evidence of LMT barrels in MK18 use. I took a very hands off approach and let people post any evidence they had because I wanted to know myself. To this day none of this has surfaced. All I got was "I heard from a guy" or "I saw them with my own eyes", etc.. bullshit.

The confusion with DD is pretty common. I once thought DD made the upper receivers, too, but all they make is the RIS II rail. There are a few contracts, but none mention upper receiver groups.

Daniel Defense, Inc.*, Savannah, Ga., is being awarded a $9,500,000 firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for a Rail Interface System II (RIS-II) for the M4A1 carbine in support of the U.S. Special Operations Command Weapons Accessories Program. RIS-II will increase the operational effectiveness of the M4A1 carbine, M203 grenade launcher and other special operations forces small arms. Work will be performed in Savannah, Ga., and is expected to be completed by May 2015. Contract funds in the amount of $173,397 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was not awarded on a competitive basis. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, Crane, Ind., is the contracting activity (N00164-10-D-JN70).
Atlantic Research Marketing Systems, West Bridgewater, Mass.; Daniel Defense, Savannah, Ga.; and Knights Armament Co., Titusville, Fla., are each being awarded a firm-fixed price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity multiple award contract for a not-to-exceed task order ceiling of $16,666,666 (each) for the delivery of 92,877 (each) Rail Interface Systems II (RIS II) and associated data. Work will be performed in West Bridgewater, Mass.; Savannah, Ga.; and Titusville, Fla., and is expected to be completed by March 2010. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This multiple award contract was competitively procured via Federal Business Opportunities website, with eleven offers received. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, Crane, Ind., is the contracting activity (Atlantic Research Marketing Systems: N00164-05-D-4863; Daniel Defense: N00164-05-D-4864; Knights Armament Co.: N00164-05-D-4865).
There was apparently a tentative award to DD back in July 2008 for "Assembled Upper Receiver Groups (URG)" in the amount of $329,516.52 from NSWC-Crane, but I cannot find any further evidence of this aside from one website. This same information was once advertised on the DD website, but I can't find it on there anymore.

On the other hand, Colt has new contracts with NSWC-Crane being issued monthly.

This is a cool thread. Lots of good technical info and lots of myths being busted.

Maybe this site should have an official AR "mythbusting" thread.
