Yeah, I meant the 16.1" Recon.

But anyways, I thought the N4s were stainless steel as well.

I was thinking about getting one of the Recons for a build, but I don't know how much of an upgrade it is over a DD CHF 16"...at twice the price. I'm in the land of diminished returns now.

The N4's are CM/V. Noveske, BCM, and Centurion are all unique in their chrome-lining (it's doubly-thick than that of the mil-spec standard and will most likely outlive other barrels), and Noveske is unique in its barrel profile. It offers the benefits of a heavy/medium contour barrel without a massive gain in weight.

Not true--just as of late the N4 HF in 14.5" are available through noveske.

Wes--You originaly had a few Centurion barrels, which are pretty close to spec to the Noveske. Can you share why you decided on the Noveske in-lieu of the CA your had.

Really? AFAIK, Noveske and Centurion were the only ones doubling their chrome lining. I checked BCM's site and there's no mention on whether or not their chrome lining is doubly thick.
Noveske and Centurion are at about the same level, differing only in a couple of, yet, valid aspects. Noveske with its unique profile as youve mentioned and Centurion with its tapered bore. At this point, it becomes a choice of applicability, IMHO.

Well, it was true when I originally stated that and it had been the case since the N4 barrel was introduced. Then Noveske went and finally did what we've all been wishing they would do and finally made the 14.5 available yesterday. Interestingly enough, ToddK from Noveske has hinted that there will be more options available in the future as well. So far, 10.5 & 14.5 are available for commercial sale. I suppose they figured that it couldn't hurt since BCM and Centurion were already offering similar products.

Myself and i am sure many others would also like to see Noveske's come out with their version of a CHF lightweight .625" profile 14.5" and 16" mid-gas barrels.

I had one Centurion barrel, and decided I did not like the configuration of the upper; I was totally satisfied with the barrel itself. It had a DD Lite 9.0 and a Vltor VST folding front sight/gas block pinned on. The VST was 100% a great product, but I decided that those types of gas blocks are really obsolete now (more complicated than needs be); I decided that instead I wanted a low-profile gas block covered by a long handguard, for simplicity and versatility, and I got the DD M4 RAS II for the new build instead of a DD Lit 12.0 because the RAS II has the removable bottom rail, and a better radial shape. Since the VST was pinned on to the Centurion barrel, I did not want to remove it and then have another GB pinned on- no way to match the holes. For my new build I would have used another new Centurion midlength midweight, no question, but they are not available now, and no new batches have been announced, so I went with the Noveske. The Noveske also gets a plus because it has a tapered profile under the handguard, while the Centurion is a straight untapered profile.

Gone, like a dozen other configurations before....I am hunting for Perfection.

Wes, who is doing your new build for you? Sorry to see the Centurion is gone already, it was a damn nice build, but I understand all too well. ;-)

I think you couldve gotten the Centurion gasblock and have a fresh pin location. Looking at your barrel, if Im not mistaken, the CA gasblock pins between the VST's 2 pin locations.
Anyway, seeing the Noveske profile, looks like a very nice barrel to try. Im interested to see how much it weighs with a pinned low pro GB,.
