Quick note on attaching lights. There are a bunch of options. GG&G makes a great little rail piece that fits on standard handguards quite well. It is curved to accommodate the curve of the handguard. See:

For Magpul MOE handguards, there are a number of rail options; any 1.5"-2" rail section will do. I have used the MI 1.5" rail section here:

BUT, you will have to get a different nut to back the attachment inside the MOE handguard (the included ones are too large). The Falcon backing pieces work very well, but the rail sections they come with are 2" and larger than I wanted. See:

The Magpul MOE illumination kit here:

    http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=325934

works pretty well. It is plastic, but sufficient to hold a light.

I have not had a major problem with the two Magpul handguards I have owned. They are in carbine length and the heat shields will come off when I remove them from the carbines. Also, due to the bolt on accessories I have used, the heat shields have scratched the finish (very minor) in small areas of the barrel. This is not visible when the handguards are installed and this is a small cosmetic issue.

I have the middy MOE with illumination kit on my BCM 16" middy. I have an X300 mounted to the canteliver rail and it is very solid, and very sturdy. The whole set up is very light weight and while I will eventually go with a rail (probably the DD omega 9.0) the MOE will more than suffice. The middy MOE locks up plenty tight to the front handgaurd cap and delta ring, and I can not imagine it getting loose over time. The plastic handgaurds on my first patrol rifle held up fine for many years with a bolt on peice of pic rail and an X200 mounted to it. That set up went through day to day use, in and out of the patrol car, over fences and through houses and back yards and never failed. The middy MOE is much stronger than that old set up.

I'm still considering the BCM as an option (especially since I don't need/want the factory handguard anyway and it doesn't come with one), I just don't know if my father is willing/able to pay that much extra for it, nor if I want to ask for that much more. Further derailing my own thread, how hard is it to install the charging handle? I know the BCG is easy as pie as I've swapped them out with my friends rifle (switching to and from CMMG .22 kit).

My experience with AR's comes from firing a friends build he completed a few months ago, and about 6+ months of research online. I definitely love the looks of quad rails and the MOE was my first choice until I got my hands on it. It's still in the fold, for sure, and I have a couple of weeks to get my parts laid out etc.
The charging handle will fall out if you don't pay attention. All you do is hold the upper upright and slowly pull it back.

Personally, regardless of whether you have the money now or not, I would choose the latter. Run some rounds through it and then choose a rail. This ensures you end up getting the right rail for your needs.
Now to your light... YOu are getting an upper with a fixed FSB arent you? THe FSB is actually one of the best places to mount a light.
This is a great suggestion! I completely forgot about using the FSB.

I just had to run and grab my rifle to take a look. I'm off to find a mount for my FSB now. Any suggestions for a light on the FSB?

The VTAC Surefire is a great alternative to the pricey Scout light.
