    Zumbo's Article in SWAT

I just read Zumbo's article in this month's SWAT.

He attended Pat Roger's class in Boone, Indiana, and wrote about his experiences since the infamous Outdoor Life blog.

It looks like he might have finally "gotten it", but I think he's still more upset over the reaction to his blog rather than the impact it might have in the political arena.

I'd be interested in hearing Pat's views on Zumbo, since I'll probably never meet or talk with Zumbo.

    Great Elmer Fudd doll too!

That reminds me....I need to go out and buy this month's SWAT.

Hopefully Zumbo learned to consider carefully what he says from now on.

I don't doubt he's still upset over the reaction to his article...he may consider it a dramatic overreaction.....but that should be expected when you essentially call a group of law abiding, freedom loving people terrorists who are scaring the sheeple and should cut it out.

He should go out and buy an AR in 6.8 SPC or 6.5 Grendel and go kill a bunch of animals and write articles for Fudd publications.

    That is an excellent idea.

I appreciate the efforts that Pat and Denny put into this. They tried to get the best possible outcome out of a shitty situation.

Jim Z did a lot of damage to the cause, but I don't think he is a malevolent character. He went and got himself educated and perhaps can now see clearly the other side of things.

Either way, I consider it put to bed. I guarantee that other hunters and sporting clay enthusiasts who write or participate in other media with be extra careful from here on out - which is a good thing.

He does still seem to be stunned by the reaction. Might have to re-read it once I have reclaimed my copy, but it seemed like he was starting to get it.

    Patrick, I like that idea.

Indeed. We can hope for no more since, even after exposure to Pat, he apparently does not get the difference between fighting and shooting, except for those being trained for combat (not him).

As old as he is, how did he escape the draft?

I've pretty much covered this on several sites, including the SWAT forums on TOS and TFL as well as 1o8.
Regardless how people feel, we succeeded in making him useless to the other side- a major plus.
Whether he understands about fighting vs shooting- i could care less.
What i want is for him to understand that we are all not TOS bumpfire bozo's, that there is a wide and diverse spectrum who uses AR's for whatever, and that he can proclaim this to the hunting fraternity in which he is highly respected.

Don't for one minute thing that only hunters don't like you. A large portion of the mil doesn't either. Nor do soccer moms, radical religious spokesmen, trap shooters, and so forth.
In fact, most other shooters hate you. Most others who own black rifles hate you.
Probably 100 or more people who have black rifles make statements on the errornet daily that are equal or worse as what Zumbo said.
Don't think T's don't use AK's or AR's?> Watch the news. Think tah all who own them are pure and homest and take long walks on the beach? Not hardly.

It isn't about him- you need to get that straight. It is about all of us, and if you guys can't put aside petty nonsense and understand that we- all of us- need to get working together, this site, your guns, many of your jobs- will all be swallowed up by the socialists, libertarians and others who hate you for no real reason, but use the gun as a lightening rod.
I did what i felt was right. We are convinced that we did a good job.
Don't like it? That's fine by me.
But what did you to to make something positive happen?

I agree with 99% of what you are saying, but this one part throws me. Some hunters I know don't have AR's, but they don't hate them. In fact, they seem facinated by mine. Target shooters at the range often love shooting my AR's and other related types. And other black rifle owners hate me (us) as well? Some, I suppose , but...

Can you elaborate? I know that some hunters think these guns are overkill, but I still think you could be overstating the issue. Aside from that, though, I agree with you and think we should move past Zumbo at this point.

Pat is 100% on the money. When I read Jim Zumbo's article his regret for the foolish blog that he posted definitely comes through in his writing. The initial wounds suffered by Jim were clearly self-inflicted, but the derogatory personal attacks and threats against him/his family were/are worse than foolish...they are mindless. Jim has paid dearly and some might say justly for his blog with the loss of his job and sponsors. Jim fortunately has the courage to admit his mistake and take the necessary actions to show repentance for what he did. It is time for us to now accept his apology, allow him the opportunity to regain our trust, and ultimately forgive him. There is no need to continue to rub salt in his wounds at this point. Instead we need to move forward as brothers (and sisters) to defend our Constitutionally affirmed liberties.

Finally, my only time getting to know Jim was at the Boone Cty class and in that short time I found him to be a true gentleman. Someone I would enjoy hunting and shooting with, as well as sharing stories around a campfire. You can tell the true measure of a man when you learn about those moments of charity that they humbly do not discuss. Jim has quietly been sponsoring, mostly out of his own pocket, hunts for those Soldiers and Marines suffering from severe amputations. He has taken them on turkey hunts, elk hunts, and even hunts to Africa. While Jim has never served in the military he was the Game Warden for the military reservation around the USMA West Point. His respect and admiration for those who serve our country is deeply felt. He does not brag nor talk self servingly about what he is doing. When Denny Hansen offered Jim space to write about this Jim declined as he felt would be seen as self serving. Jim wants to create a foundation for this activity and I intend to support him as much as I can. I hope others will as well.

Finally, I fully concur with Pat's comment "what did you do to make something positive happen?" I know that Rich Lucibella and Denny Hansen of SWAT magazine, as well as Pat Rogers did. I'll even add that Jim Zumbo recognized that he needed to do something positive inorder to correct a huge negative that he admits to erroneously creating.
