    22lr trainer?

Anyone have a .22 bolt action trainer? I'm thinking about getting a savage bolt action to practice for cheap.

Anyone else have a .22lr trainer?

Not a trainer per say but I love shooting it. It was my first firearm.

I have been running a CZ 452 Varmint for the past couple of years. It will shoot inside 1/2" at 50 yards. The triggers from the factory are not the best but the aftermarket can be your friend. Sniper's Hide has a entire section dedicated to the trainer on their forum. Lots of good information.

I have a Savage MkII FV in 22lr, and a Savage Model 10FP in .308. I use the 22 mostly for target, and groundhogs, and the 308 for long range tactical.

While the rifles are almost identical, and my intent was to train with the 22 to be better with the 308, it really doesnt work.

I am a better shooter from constantly shooting the 22. I stalk, range, and dope for the gourndhogs at a max 50 yards. This gives me the experience to do the same behind the 308. However, they are 2 different animals to shoot.

You can build the fundamentals on a 22, but you still need the trigger time behind a centerfire rifle.

That being said, I absolutely love my MK II, and would not give it up. It is an absolute tack driver at any yardage with decent ammo. Mine has a preference for Federal Champion Target, but CCI Blazer Bulk works equally well. My crowning acheivment was hitting a 4" clay at 250 yards. I have also shot about 50+ groundhogs, and numerous other varmints with it. Everyone should own a 22 bolt action if for no other reason than they are an absolute joy to shoot.

I would encourage you to go get a 22 bolt gun, but don't think it will replace practice behind your bigger gun.

    My MK II FV:

I am also thinking about a stevens 200 in .243win......I have dies and brass..

It could be a nice cheap long range project.

Since you have dies and brass, have you thought about doing a lighter reload for your gun ie lighter bullets and less powder? (This would only work in a bolt action.) Just an idea but not as cheap as a 22 LR.

I have an Anschutz 1411 prone rifle.

Right now it is only set up for NRA smallbore prone, but a bipod hooked up to the handstop rail and a scope will turn it into a trainer for bipod shooting quite nicely.

This thing has a two stage trigger to die for and it is brutally accurate. These targets were shot prone with irons, shooting coat, and a sling.

    50 yards

100 yards (on a windy day)

I would go with one of the CZ models. Either a Trainer, or Full Stock would be my choice.

Savage looks to be the manf. i'm going with...

although CDNN has winchester wildcats for super cheap (too bad they arent the target model)
