TRP MAGWELL MOD, FRANK GLENN, PHX

I posted earlier an question about my Magwell and someone directed to have Frank Glenn in Phx give it a look see. I was looking at $300+ smacks for SA to do it. He was less expensive, $225.00 for a Smith and Alexander and no shipping.

After looking at the gun he ask me if I would prefer he machine down the existing magwell to accept the mags I brought him that did not work. For a whopping $60. Its not a custom magwell blending by any means, but it does exactly what I wanted.

I picked it up today, the mags fit perfect. My Chip & McCormick 10 rounders and Nighthawk mags are now fully functional.

glad to see it worked out for you. I have a Colt, built by Frank, that has been absolutely perfect. It doesn't car what mags or ammo I put in it. it's 100% reliable, and shoots like a laser. and it's old-school beautiful.

That certainly is a cost effective way of getting around your problem

Not trying to step on anyone's toes here but I gotta say that it looks like a butcher job! Did he really leave the metal bare? Those corners to the sides where he machined look awfully sharp too. Did he blend the S&A Magwell to the frame? As far as I can tell from the pics it doesn't look like it.

the bare area is part of the frame, probably just as it came from SA. he didn't blend the removable magwell to the frame, as the OP stated. Frank just reprofiled the magwell itself to clear the large basepads of the OP's magazines.

eta: i bet the magwell has a bit of side-to-side play. every bolt-on magwell I have ever seen has this characteristic. that probably adds to the perception that the magwell is not perfectly aligned to the frame

So you are saying springfield ships their guns half finished? I thought that's the area where Frank Glenn machined some material off so the mags will work...
What you are saying about the mag well could very well be. Like I said; hard to tell from the pictures.

I would break the edge over with a little sand paper and then at least cold blue the exposed metal. Inexpensive, but it will slow the rust down. In AZ you might be good to go with just the cold blue.

I love those gunner grips too!

Sweet TRP you have there. FWIW, my TRP Operator ran into the same problem with the 10 rounders not fitting. I chose to modify the mags not the frame. The big plastic bumper was hitting the sides of the magwell. I just steepened the angle of the base pad at the top where it would hit the mag well.

Either way your gun will run them now!

Yea, I had the same problem with 10 rounders and others. Too lazy to mod the mags.

I think I will run a little BLUE over the magwell to give it a little more protection.

I have to be honest, I wouldn't be happy with the outcome of the magwell. The front looks like a nasty cut waiting to happen.

If you are happy though, that's all that matters.

That shiny exposed Silver has been like that for years with no issue. All he did was change the angle of the bevel on the well to accommodate my other mags. Thats all I asked him to do. He can do a full-on Mag well and blend to frame if asked.
