    Safely removing Castle Nut

Getting all my ducks in a row to replace my pinned collapsible stock with a fixed (still haven't decided - either A1 or Sully). I don't want to break the bank on tooling that I will probably use only once, so what cheaper-end armorer's wrench does everyone recommend, and what's the best way to hold and support my lower during the operation, without damage, without having to buy some sort of expensive doohicky designed to hold my lower in my bench vice?

Cheap version, but go careful to prevent scratches on stuff.

Old rags to cushion the receiver while it is held in the bench vise. Snug but not so tight that you crush the receiver.

Pipe wrench to grab onto and remove the old receiver extension nut.

My advice is to get the correct tools and do it right or you will learn the hard way as some of our members have done.

I would buy all the necessary tools. But if you just have to be cheap, you could use an old mag for the vise block.

Thanks. Not what I wanted to hear, but better than a crushed lower. I've been looking around the store sites and can't seem to find a vise block. Anyone know where to find one and how much they run?

Okay, one last question...for now...I hope. My carbine's a Colt, and they did a great job staking the castle nut. Which wrench should I look for that's not going to have teeth snap when I work on the nut?
