Battlecomp is definitely the quietest comp I have used thus far.
i don't believe i've ever fired an AR without a muzzle device.. even during the ban, i refused to go slick.
but i can doubly testify that the BC, while loud, is far and away the quietest brake available. period.
eta, i should add: i'm planning on getting a third battlecomp for my hunting rifle.. after this season, getting shit caught and stuck in the vortex on my hunting stick..... that closed muzzle will be a welcome thing. that, and the ability to watch my round strike at 200m, and not go deaf for it.

Thanks for this thread. I want to put together a coyote/predator rifle, and also need to have the quietest setup I can. Is it quieter to go without a supressor/brake on the muzzle? I was planning on building an 18" upper.
I currently have a 16" mid-length with A2 flash supressor, and have never shot it without hearing protection. I'm kind of scared too.I've shot one or two shots at a time with my 24" barelled .22-250, and did not find it offensive. Much more powder in the .22-250 over the .223. Can anyone make comparisons?
I would not shoot a 16" AR in .223 without ear protection.
Anything quieter than a barrel without any attachment would require a suppressor fee, AFAIK. SO if you don't want to pony up the big bucks, I'd put a thread protector on there. But I'd still wear protection in at least one ear. YMMV.

I've been using a Levang for hunting the last couple of years with my handloaded 75 grain reloads for taking dozens and dozens of hogs, coyotes, and other varmints.
The muzzle blast is basically directed straight out in front towards the target. Not only will you, the shooter be a happy camper, but any of your friends standing near to you will also.
The Levang is an absolute blessing for sore ears....I don't leave home without it.

wow... either your sig shrunk in the wash, or that's a pretty decent size pig
One Hornady 75 grain BTHP lung shot @ a measured 146 yards, DOA.
Walked back to the house to get the camera and the coyote came out of the woods and was sniffing my dead hog 5 minutes later, so I decided I must reach out and extend to him an invitation to join the party!![]()
