I fired one round through my 11.5” barrel with a PWS FSC556 without ear protection. That was not an enjoyable experience. Down right painful. Decided that I would hate to have to use that in a self-defense situation especially indoors.

I put a Troy Claymore on the 11.5”. I also fired a 16” rifle with an A2 at the same time. They sounded about the same to me. However, the Claymore wasn’t as effective muzzle brake as the FCS556.

The FSC556 seemed like it was tuned perfectly to the 11.5” The gun didn’t seem to move when firing. Just a slight straight rearward recoil.

Battlecomp is on my short list, but the finance admin (wife) as frozen my budget. She finally figured that when I said no more new guns that I was spending just as much on accessories.

    The 16" w/ A2 sounded as loud as the 11.5" w/ FCS556?

    No,

A 11.5" with a Troy Claymore sounded the same as 16" with A2.

A 11.5" with a FSC556 sounded like two flashbangs taped to each ear while inside an enclosed 2X2 room.

Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like a 16" or 18" with a Claymore should be just right for a coyote/predator rifle.

A Levang works the same as the Claymore for a lot less money.

But with the Claymore, you get a "Front Towards Enemy" engraved on it. So, you know which way to shoot. And an "improvised breaching devise" which I may need if I lock the keys in my car at the range.

The old AWC HyperDyne muzzle brake was pretty good.

It looked like a short tube that screwed onto the muzzle and it had three small ports near the muzzle. It worked well at muzzle control on rapid fire and it wasn't very loud from the shooter's perspective.

They have not been sold in that configuration in a few years, but since AWC had so many dealers in their network at the time, there have got to be a lot of them in circulation. AWC made them in a lot of calibers. I had one in 5.56 and it might be what you ar elooking for.

Also, the old Fabian Muzzle Mizer was pretty good too. There was a brake and a brake/flash hider combination. The second one was better.

You can still find them used and in good shape over at CALGUNS and GunBroker.

Holy Crap!! That must have been louder than hell. Iraqgunz accidentally fire a round out of a 14.5 with the PWS... and that was OUTDOORS. He said it totally sucked.

Battlecomps by far and I think I've shot with almost all available muzzle devices.

I went hunting with my 308 BABC without earplugs. While my ears still got punshed, I didn't go deaf for 3 days like other 308 brakes I've used.

BC's are the way to go and I've got one on every one of my AR's.

That Idiot, David Fortier, did a bit on gunsandammo tv. It was on flash hiders and brakes and such. They didn't even cover the battlecomp. Other than that omission, the segment was one of his less brainless pieces.
