    The Russian 91/30 maintenance

Recently bought one for $100 (came with bayonet, stripper clip, original Russian sling and cleaning kit) Made in 1938, GREAT CONDITION for something that is 72 years old. Nice and clean, and I am using non-corrosive ammo 148 gm FMJ rounds (they were cheaper :3) and would like to ask the community 2 things

    1) Why would anyone consider the 91/30 to "kick like a mule"???

    2) I have heard (several times) about cleaning the gun with warm soapy water (or a cleaning detergent) and was wondering if this was only when firing corrosive rounds.

    1) Generally comes from people who haven't shot a serious rifle caliber weapon.

    2) Only if you're using corrosive ammunition. The warm soapy water will dissolve the salts left behind from corrosive primers.

    Thanks!

I would be seriously concerned about the rifle if i had to wash it with soapy water after every use!

Just the inside of the barrel, chamber and bolt face. That's the price you have to pay if you want to shoot corrosive ammo and keep it in good shape.

I keep a jug of Ballistol/Water mix in my jeep with some patches.

I just clean before I leave the range. A Mosin/Nagant is easy to maintain. Takes 15 min tops. Then it is over and done with.
My brother saw Deliverance and bought a Bow. I saw Deliverance and bought an AR-15.
