    I've never heard nor seen a worn out carrier. I've seen carriers that needed replacement because of catastrophic failure (Kaboom!).

    And I recommend you give your barrel a good cleaning with some JB bore paste before you give up on it. I do it sparingly and use it rarely only when I think the barrel might be getting a bit too fouled. It might be a bit of stubborn fouling, not wear.

    PS, back flush your gas tube with some brake cleaner after using to get the glob of JB out of the gas port.
