They have been reliable for many. They have also failed many.

I think the point is why buy one at all KNOWING that it isn't built correctly?

People have used all sorts of stuff to defend themselves with from Jennings auto pistols to Highpoints. That does not make said firearms reliable or a good choice. Sometimes you get lucky.

    You don't!

But if, by lack of knowledge or just bad advice, you ended up with one; It would still work for a home defense rifle. Even thought it's not the BEST rifle for the job.

I was lucky enough to be involved with the right people early on, so never made a Bushmaster/etc mistake. Not everyone else is that lucky.

    Off topic anyway.

The chart is a great tool. It's not saying "Look, my crap is better than yours." It's saying "Well, this company does this, while this one doesn't. And this one goes this far on top of that." It's information, stop taking it so personally. The only REAL problem, is if you read the chart, and bought the Olympic anyway.

It may work or it may not. Your chances of the rifle working when you need it goes up with better brands.

To state that one is "lucky" if their Bushmaster is used to successfully defend themselves in a swift and likely brief engagement is a bit of a stretch, but your overall point is observed. The better the rifle, the more reliable overall.

I believe in Murphy's law. What can go wrong will. So I want there to be less than can go wrong.

You surely won't get an argument from me on that one.

Interesting that Armalite is listed as having an H buffer, staked castle nut and properly staked gas key. Anyone know when these changes were made? My earlier ones do not have these.

That was changed from the first chart to the current, so sometime in the last couple of years. FWIW, it still appears to be hit or miss with them.

Not sure if the complete rifles come this way, but my LMT upper came with the M16 BCG and not the semi auto AR15.
As to be expected the gas key stalking was excellent
