I don't understand how you want me to answer your question.

It sounds like he was giving you facts when he said:

This is what I want to know, why does eceryone here say stay with the 11.5 cause its more reliable but crane went with the 10.5? Is there something you guys know that crane doesnt? Should we send them a letter telling them they should get 11.5s cause the 10.5s dont run as well? Im sure they tested, tested and tested and found out a few things about it. Thats what I wanted to know. There has to be a better reason other than "we wanted it" (but Im sure thats a big part).....

I do not know the Navy's reasons but I suspect it is lime mine. It is all a compromise. I never served aboard ship but it is clear to me that they would want the smallest reliable weapon they could get because of their need to fight is confined spaces. I would think they also use cans too and that would add to the length.

I bought my 10.5" because I wanted something short and reliable. My LMT SBR and two of our PD's surplus M16's with 10.5" LMT uppers have run perfectly for us. They each have just over 2,500 rounds through them in the last 18 months. Not a high round count but I trust mine.

I bought the 11.5" BCM SBR next and I like it. The round count is low. Cash is tight. But I suggested the 11.5" because I don't notice a difference and the increased dwell to and velocity are both a plus. If I could have just one I would keep the 11.5".

Paul from BCM has a good post that gets into the technical side of "why" much better than I can. As I remember it came down to dwell time and velocity. I think the dwell time increased 50% in the 11.5" over the 10.5". He also said he has a 10.5" and it runs perfectly too.

Id like to try a Kino upper eventually.

I have a third upper in the works and it will be a 10.3" bbl cut down from an M4 profile 14.5" just waitinf for it to come in so I can ship it out to War Rifles.

10" guns were dropped by Colt with the 607, 608, 609 (XM177E1), and 610 (GAU-5A) during Vietnam in favor of 11.5" short barrels. The 11.5" has been standard since.

More recent improvements have made the 10.3" more reliable. So the reliability between 11.5" and 10.3" is the same, but I prefer the 11.5" for silencer use and general use where a short barrel is needed. 11.5" doesn't beat up on silencers as much.

I also prefer the 11.5" with a low pro gas block and extended rail as I can get my hand out farther than with a 10.3" with a similar set up.

The standard for who? The point Im making is most say the 11.5 is more reliable but crane uses the 10.5. Im sure they need more reliabilty than 99% of us here.....

All the evidence I've seen definitely points to the customer wanting a barrel as short as practical.
