    The lot number is 2 47 V522

The rounds were head-stamped FC as well.

If the rest of the case is working fine and you have just a single problem, it's most likely the ammo.

If you have continous problems in an otherwise good gun, then parts (extractors and springs) are wearing out as suggested above.

Are all the other cases from this batch of ammo showing strong extractor pull-marks on the brass?
If so, get a heavier buffer for sure.
It's better to delay the extraction with a heavier buffer than just to strengthen the extractor so it can prematurely yank the case out of the chamber.

The best solution is to just upgrade everything.
That way the extraction timing will be correct AND you will have a stronger extraction system.
Now, when you DO get a hot round, the gun will keep on ticking like a Timex...
All the other cases looked normal. I'm not too familiar with the benefits of heavy buffers, I thought they were just used to slow down the ROF. I may get the BCM parts kit for now, but I'd like to go through with upgrading all my bolt parts, getting a new buffer and springs, and re-staking my gas-key to boot when funds allow.

They do slow the ROF down which in turn makes extraction easier.

Heavier buffers increase the TIME that it takes for the carrier to get moving, unlock the bolt and extract the case.
The timing of the AR is critical.
If you try to extract before the barrel pressure has dropped (when bullet leaves the bore), the case is still holding on to the chamber walls.

Read through my "how it works" thread again.
    This is covered there.

It also could be soft brass or hot loads. The suggestions so far will simply allow your carbine to deal with the out-of-spec ammo, but clearly you have a situation of too high pressure for that brass. The pressure may be in spec but the soft brass can't handle it or it may be higher than spec pressure. Either way this is not good.

Given that other ammo worked fine I suspect your chamber is fine. You could try a throat reamer to ensure the throat and leade are properly dimensioned, but I'd just switch ammo.

Thanks, I have a fair bit of this ammo from many different lots. I'll see if I have any of this lot around.

Was this lot packaged in the big ammo boxes (that have white plastic cartridge holders) or the small ammo boxes (with black plastic cartridge holders, and the box is about the size of Winchester White Box or XM193)?

This ammo was packaged in a brown case, with bar code and product details printed on it. The boxes were 20round that had the red packaging with the black/white eagle on it. The dividers were dark grey/black in color.

For class I would suggest to replace these parts on your AR or have them with you if yours is already GTG:
    5-new magazines
Great advice. I would just tweak that to include 5 previously tested mags.
