Question Anyone Test a Variety of Snubnose Ammo in 4-Ply Denim?

Love to see 4-Ply Denim tests in gel on the following self defense loads that I believe might lead the pack for 2" snubnose revolvers:

    1. Buffalo Bore's Short Barrel Standard Pressure 158-gr. Lead Wadcutter HP (Item #20C) at 850 fps in 2" snubnose.

    2. Buffalo Bore's Short Barrel Standard Pressure 150-gr. Hardcast Wadcutter (Item #20D) at 868 fps in 2" snubnose.

    3. Speer Short Barrel 135-gr. +P Gold Dot (Item #23921) at 860 fps in 2" snubnose.

    4. Winchester Supreme Elite 130-gr. Bonded (Item #S38PDB) at about 850 fps in 2" snubnose. http://www.winchester.com/Products/h...es/S38PDB.aspx

    5. Corbon 110-gr. +P Solid Copper DPX (Item #DPX38110-20) at about 925 fps in 2" snubnose.

Try here for info on some loads:

His standards have improved over time and info is interesting at least.

Doc has tested both the Gold Dot and DPX loads extensively.

The BB wadcutter is what it is, being full speed and hard cast I'd guess 20+" of gel.

    Have you read this?;

There is a bunch more around here if you do a search.

I would love to see independent pressure data for Buffalo Bore loads, performed according to SAAMI standards. I wrote to them regarding this, and no replay... not all USA manufacturer's are members of SAAMI (nor CIP, of course) and strict compliance with their standards is largely optative, so I tend to take with a grain of salt manufacturers that can extract 100+ fps more than corporate giants with much greater technological resources.

Not saying their loads are dangerous (they're not), we all know modern revolvers are very strong, specially steel ones.

I've wondered the exact same thing.

I had the opportunity to shoot some Speer Gold Dot +P 135g .38 Spl out of my old J-Frame airweight S&W about two years ago and I was impressed. It went 12" into bare ballistic gelatin and opened up nicely. I fired 10 rounds inside a 5-1/2" group at 25 yards, which is better accuracy than groups with other rounds I have fired over the years. The only issue I had was that the group was several inches low and several inches to the left of point of aim at 25 yards. I had to file material from the top and right side of the front sight until it shot POI=POA at 25 yards.

I bought my wife a new S&W BG38 for her birthday last year and the Speer Gold Dot ammunition shot POI=POA at 25 yards without any iron sight modification. I zeroed the laser at 15 yards with this ammunition and I was impressed at how accurate the round was.

    Not a bad guess.

MacPherson's predictive model says it'll go a fraction of an inch over twenty-three inches and produce a little more than 39 grams of permanent wound cavity mass over its total penetration depth.

For anyone carrying a J Frame this is worth revisiting.
