A little .30-30 Fun Today (Utility Rifle)

Got a day in the woods to have a little fun. Jon came with me so he may add to this post with pics also.

Here in NC we dont get many shots longer than 50 yards. Not really a need for a Bolt gun and Optic to take game. I haven't had much time with my .30-30 as I have managed to get a couple of nice AR's that has been taking up my range interest for the most part. BUT today I need to make sure I can shoot that Deer responsibly if I get a chance too

    So.... Off We Go

This is my all intensive purposes my most favorite utility rifle for woods use in a caliber over a .22lr. That favorite gun is my Marlin Model 60......but thats another thread one of these days.

    Marlin 336C

The sun was way wrong and glaring off the rear sight so my sight picture was less than optimal today. Anyways, after about 40 rounds or so today this was where we made the last shot group from.

Using the Kifaru Xray as my prone rest at a cool 41 yards I was happy. THis is a 5 shot group and will put meat in the freezer I am hoping!!!

awesome rifle, wish i had mine still. my buddy bought one new from walmart 2 months ago and it wont eject the fired case. marlin sent a new extractor and it still didnt work. so he took a gasp, rinder to the barrel notch where the extracter lives when the bolt is in battery. needless to say he needs a new barrel.

The gun Walmart has are a little different than the one I have. His sounds like a trip to Marlin will fix it up.

    Talking .30-30 love

I used to carry a .30-30 Winchester 94 for hunting wild boar in Hawaii. Slim, light weight and fast handling in the woods. I've never used a Marlin but I assume the Marlin has the same great characteristics if not better accuracy. While I don't own that rifle anymore (bought at JC Penny's for under a hundred bucks), I have another as its replacement. Best of luck hunting deer!

I have a Marlin 336 in .30-30, and love it. It was my truck gun for many years, residing in a gun boot behind the seat. I am hoping to upgrade it with an XS sights rail and sights this summer. I have toyed with making it into a Scout rifle. It's hard to beat the cool factor of the old lever guns.

Always have liked the 30-30win. Just something about it......

I've since been looking at .32win spl, 356win, and 375win. All cool less popular lever action rounds.
