Incidents like what Rob was describing is the reason that we train.
We all make mistakes, and the reason why we perform certain drills in a certain way (making ready for example) is because we want to be able to do things on auto pilot- without having to think about it.
But no Rob, this wasn't meant to humilate you. This was a good illustration for the article, and showed how you and your buddie approached the same problem.
Speaking of paying attention, at a recent class I approached a drill with my AR and didn't even have a mag in the darn thing.The funny part is that I had just gotten done making fun of the instructor because he started the drill with an empty chamber.
Those of us that live in glass houses......
